AI is the next big revelation. And we haven't even scratched its potential, gameplay-wise.

The future games will require a microphone and probably a camera for full interaction.

I know that AI made huge advancements in last few years, it is a revolution, but I still find it hard to believe it will be so developed to just generate games, like, just like that.

its not but it is good enough start playing around with truly open games with open NPCs. I predict a resurgence of "point and click" - ish. style games with AI npcs ..

I cannot even read through curated dialogue in videogames without feeling like its wasting my time. You think people will want to spend time reading AI short stories?

In the short-term gaming on headsets is a growing trend. Been using XR glasses on the steamdeck for a while and it's a good experience. It's nice cause you can upgrade the gaming hardware screen separately. If this takes off the hardware would become cheaper without an integrated screen or controller.

Coming soon we have Samsung's XR glasses, Apple's Vision Pro 2 and the Steam Frame hopefully next month. Excited about all of them.

AI should make stories in gaming dramatically better in a few years. The characters will be able to really talk with you about what's going on in the game instead of just scripted cutscenes triggered by events. Will eventually be much easier to develop and less expensive too.

You mean like same gameplay and plot ideas from the last 30 years, just with more tits and ass?

What will come first will be games that adapt themselves using AI. You can lay the groundwork for the gameplay systems, and put guardrails on the AI so that it doesn't generate something wacky and/or unfun. It'll be pretty easy stuff, especially at first. Think: "Vampire Survivors, but the AI generates all the weapons, passive abilities, and evolutions on the fly in real time based on player interactions", that kind of thing.

Shallow games, low effort games, lack of imagination games, which leads to more remakes, longer dev times, higher costs, developers who can't get the most out of the hardware, more open world games, indies that take almost a decade to put out, a lack of physical media, and worst of all, the thought of placing adds in games breaks the camel's back for me.

I just can't see myself buying any more new hardware, and Switch 2 was probably my swan song. Thankfully, I'm a "hoarder" and kept my old systems and games. I'm going to watch and laugh at the purchasers of new hardware and games, with all the problems, delays, the petty bickering that will never cease, the complaints about 'unfinished' this, and 'unplayable' that etc.

I'll save a fortune and probably get much more entertainment doing that than I would had I bought in to all the bullshit headed our way.

lol why would they just be text? And why would they be long?
Again not saying they would be exactly like point and click .. but that style of narrative , interaction less about action.

Maybe streaming services will take off in a big way. Hardware keeps getting more and more expensive and the box just sits under the TV not being used for hours at a time while people work.
Might as well just skip the hardware and play on a cloud machine nearby.
Just like my Car. It sits in the garage all night and then sits in a parking lot while I'm at work all day. I need to enable self driving on that thing and earn some money while I'm not using it.
OR maybe the box under your TV could be rented out to the cloud to play while I'm away?

More expensive games, hardware, acessories and services because covid melted consumers' brains and companies learned how to milk them.

Lag-free streaming is my dream but I can't see it happening soon.

Sony will double down on their pc strategy and will see their console business shrink
No because people buy the PS5 to play third-party games. Sony can stop releasing games and the console will keep selling well.

People think of all these crazy n big ideas, i personally see a downsizing of the industry. The winners will be the ones who know how to keep budgets, team sizes and dev time under control.

There will be no AI-driven games (at least for the foresseable and beyond some curiosity) with AI being relegated to development tools and maybe some mechanic here and there. Streaming will exist and could improve but wont be replacing anything. VR may grow but that will depend on whether companies can figure out how to make it more affordable and convenient. Handelds or portability in general will keep growing in popularity.

GTA6 will have a monstruous release as expected, but its online mode won't catch on like Vs did, at least not as much as it needs to. I expect rockstar to face many issue due to that following a few years past its release until they eventualy face financial problems and either downsize, divide up for sale or straight up close down. Many will probably look back on GTA6 as a breaking point for the industry.

More smaller dev team games hopefully. I think there are very few studios doing much worthwhile with massive teams.

Personal gaming experience through AI. If you still have a job to afford it...
This is the self limiting factor for AI, who's going to buy your shit if no one has a job to be able to afford it?

If no one buys your shit you go out of business.

You never saw a world were there are no Sony exclusives and all sony games are on PC at most in 6 months or even day one if they as I said double down.

But we have seen a world were a company decided to make all their games available on pc and eventually rendered their hardware obsolete.

Saying theres zero possibility of loosing/shrinking market share to pc if exclusives are no more is just ludicrous imho
