Not saying it will happen, but just asking a what if?

What if the PS3 just completely blew the X360 out of the water? The online service was much better, the games looked a generation above (I guess maybe like the Xbox to the DC), etc.

Would they stick it out for another 4 years? Do you think they'd get desperate and push for a half gen upgrade? Maybe have developers do compatibility for both, but have a hi-def version for the X360 mk 2...

or maybe even shorten the lifecycle of the X360 to 3 years.

Would they pull out of the business?

They stand to lose a lot, if they fail to get the Xbox out there, but is it worth it to take repeated beatings on the Xbox itself?

It doens't matter which system is more powerful or has the better online setup. We should know this by now. It's all about the support the system gets and the games that come out of that. Xbox's main problem is that 360 is a complete fucking failure in Japan and the odds of coming back from the place it is in now is very slim.

...which Sony has the lion's share. What's your point? Not to mention that this PS2-Xbox comparison is totally invalid since the only thing that prooves is Playstation brand's power and nothing more.

Unless you're implying that the Xbox brand is as strong as Playstation's or that the software support for 360 will be bigger than PS3.

If PS2 had XBOX-level graphics and an HDD, XBOX probably would have sold half what it did.

Superior technical capabilities + massive software library = no reason to look at anything else.

Sony are very good at 'nullifying' their competitors features. So Microsoft needs to keep on their toes. Don't forget they are the market leader, so Sony don't necessary need to be provide the best features, only features that are 'good enough'.
