What's the BEST processor for gaming?

I think in terms of brute force, the FX line is better.

Personally, I'd go with the X2 line as you're future proof when games start to use more than one thread.

Don't buy an Intel chip. Just get the fastest AMD chip you can afford.

Most games are not programmed to take advantage of multi-core CPUs, so as far as the here and now, the FX is probably the best bet. The X2 is just fine as well, but some benchmarks actually come out just a hair lower than the FX because of what I said about multi-core CPUs. When programmers start coding to take advantage of multi-core CPUs, the X2 will be better, but who the hell knows when that's going to take place. You may be ready for another upgrade by that point anyway.

Now, if you want to do something like burn a CD and play a video game at the same time, the X2 is what you want.

F.E.A.R. supposedly will take advantage of dual core cpus, so if that is a sign of things to come, the X2 would be a more "future proof" choice. I put that in quotes because nothing is ever really future proof, of course :)

I would also think that as 2/3 consoles of this upcoming generation are using multi-core or multi cpu architectures that if the pc gets versions of these games, they might also take advantage of multiple cores. That part is just a guess, but it wouldn't surprise me.

Basically it's just going to take time. There will be sparse support and it will grow over the years. Like I said, at this point, it probably may not make sense buying the multi-core CPU since most games won't take advantage of it, and when most do, that CPU is going to be outdated anyway.

put it this way im a pretty diehard intel guy and i have an amd 64 dual core 4800+ cause i game to go with my 7800s SLI

so take it from that

That had to have been expensive. 7800 SLI that is. What did that run you 900 bucks?

not as bad as youd think

the DFI nfcorce 4 mobo

2 BFG overclcoked 7800s

2gb OCZ DDr 400

AMD 64 4800+ cpu

all together was about 2100 bucks

and since people usually have the case , cd drives and all the other bullshit it came out pretty good - 2100 for a kickass gaming rig aint bad

but then i had to spend 180 more on a 680 watt pwoersource... the freakin cards eat like 260 each or something

Actually the fast gaming cpu on the market may be the.......... Intel Pentium-M cpu.

Dont laugh, you asked, so I will supply the goods.

check out the facts right HERE!

The link above is the reason why Intel has gone away from the pentium 4 line of cpus when designing their future chips. The woodcrest family of cpu's will be based off of these pentium-m cpu's but with multiple cores. They will also run very cool by todays standards.

Asus makes an adapter that allows a pentium-m cu to be used with a few of their motherboards. A pentium-m cpu clocked at 2.5ghz blows even the current amd fx chips out of the water when looking at games performance. Pretty interesting stuff.

fact is THG is a bunch of intel fanboi's. I find it interesting that in that review by THG doom3 only get 105fps 640x480 on the FX 55, but in THIS

http://www.neoseeker.com/Articles/Hardware/Reviews/amd64-4000/9.html

has the a64 4000 maintaining 163 fps on lowest settings. I smell BS, look at half the demo's on THG's site they are all custom demo's so who knows what they benchmark. I like how he didnt feel the need to use one of the included benchmarks, or even isoloate the processor by running at minimum rez in UTk4 the "THG" benchmark..please.
