What's the consensus on plates being interchangeable between PS5 Slim and Pro?

There are multiple videos, articles, and conversations about the interchangeability of plates between PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro. Some say that only the bottom plates can be swapped, where others opine that the the plates are made to accommodate the Slim and Pro. But at the end of the day, I have not seen a definitive answer.

Just saw on Let's Talk Playstation - a image leaked on a Japanese website that indicated NO they do not fit.

Yes the ps5 pro slim cases fit. This was posted on here a few times. Forgot the site that got it from Sony that the slims panels will work on the pro. Wish I had the link but it’s pretty legit site as well.

Are they interchangeable or are they not? I really want the new Chroma Teal color shift plates for my PS5 Pro, but don't want to waste money on them if they're not going to fit.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
No, I could tell that just by looking at it.
The bottom one looks like it could be but the top is different, especially in material.

I really think that they will fit. There's a picture of a PS5 Slim right next to a Pro. I copy/pasted the slim's top plate next to the Pro's top plate for a comparison. The PS5 Slim is slightly closer to the camera, making its top plate look a little bit larger than the Pro's plate, but I think that they are the same size.

If only Sony would talk just a little more

We didn't even get a time here in the US when orders would go live or even a price on the LE bundle

I don't know I have ever seen a company less willing to talk to their consumers

In the past, Sony has been pretty good about having an FAQ available to answer questions like these.

New PlayStation leadership are making Jim Ryan look good.

Remember the backwards compatibilty of the ps5 with ps4? We needed a digitale foundry item for that to be knieën. I guess we Will hear from them eventually how ps5 boostmode wil work on most ps5 games. Sony just does not care it seems. To be fair: everything they Will say Will get the “not worth 700 dollar” answer in the first reaction and people Will run with it.

If you're insane enough to buy both consoles, surely you will buy separate sets of plates for each, no?
I bought two ps5 Pros and I also bought 2 sets of slim plates. If they don’t fit I’ll just return them to Amazon and paint the white ones.

Sounds like you’re a Pro hater so why even comment on a topic you clearly don’t give a damn about?

Just seems silly. No one cares what you have to say as an outsider.

I'm pissed the regular cover plates doesn't fit on Pro. Spent a good amount of money and time to customize the PS5 looking all sexy and now I have to ditch everything and start over? Goddamn it!

Sony is clearly making people confused on purpose so the backlash of needing to buy Pro specific plates will not come in full force during initial preorder period, but after the chart and trying to read that segment on the blog post in the most pedant way possible, the plates are most likely not compatible.

I think saying they are doing this on purpose is giving them too much credit. Sony's PR has been incredibly incompetent for quite a while. But I seriously doubt there will be any backlash either way. Ever since PS5 launched plate options have largely been an afterthought. I remember discussing how cool it would be to have a bunch of game themed options prior to the gen and that just never really happened outside of a couple of rare limited offerings.

They will fit. When you look at the Pro and Slim you see that the difference is that Pro is elevated by those three stripes. Plates are the same size. Also it doesn't make sense to produce two sets of plates. They even didn't bother to make Slim covers for digital separated. It would be too confusing.

Only thing is that they could have communicated it in clear way, just like with the disc drive.

This is the one thing I wish Sony was more vocal about. Like I get they want to do things in a controlled manner and all the live service shit fucked up the game schedule but christ. Just confirm do the slim plates work or not. Techradar said they do but they didn't cite who at Sony told them that.

The pro will be a niche item so I don't think Sony really cares about the plates for that one. Everyone should be more bothered that Sony is not selling the fat OG plates in the new colors. Only for the slim.
Would be a bit ironic because those of us willing to splurge on a pro are also the most likely to spend on accessories like plates and shit to customize our console.

I still feel like Sony forgot about the Pro release. They really just released a video, a blog post that misses a lot of info and went into hiding lmao.
They announced the PS5 on Instagram with a picture of a controller on a random Tuesday.

They announced Astro Bot a few months before it released.

This is how they're doing things this generation and honestly its working out for them.

Amazon doesn't MAKE charts, they PUBLISH what Sony SENDS them
I bought a kid pool once from Amazon before a family gathering to give the smallest kids something to play in and the dimensions on Amazons US chart showed it was 36" in diameter and even had a picture of a baby sitting in it with the mother holding the baby

When it arrived it showed up about 6" in diameter and maybe could have been used as a lego swimming pool

So forgive me if I prefer to wait for an actual official source as Amazon is not official

And you're right its not rocket science, one will be published by Sony

Sony definitely has some weird PR/marketing issues at the moment.

They've convinced themselves that they can stay as silent as possible and I'm not sure that's a great strategy.

I had a friend who is a gamer, but not like a gamer who is going to go online and have discourse on forums. He said he was sad that the PS5 Pro didn't work with a disc drive. This guy spends 1000s of dollars on equipment. When I told him you can get the drive separately, he pre-ordered.

That we don't know for certain whether the plates fit or not at this point is absolutely wild, but it's also a failure of our joke of a media.

I don't know that Sony has forgotten about the Pro. I think they want to hit this balance of not shitting on the base PS5, while promoting the Pro. And I think a lot of companies don't want Sony to advertise the games running on the base as less than, which is why they focused on older games running on the PS5 Pro that no one would take offense to.

Like I think they've taken secrecy to a kind of ridiculous level and they could do more to generate good will for their brand than they're doing.
