What's U Force? NES Auction Question

I remember it, it detected the motion of your hands. Like you make punching movements in front of it and it changed that into controller input. I never had one though...

I got a few used U-Forces from a thrift store a few years back. Interesting concept, but the only game the U-Force was at all useful for was Punch-Out. Punching at the U-Force did result in punches landing correctly in the game.

The craziest thing about the U-Force was that it was released by Broderbund. Broderbund! The same company that did Guardian Legend and Legacy of the Wizard. I don't recall them releasing any other gaming hardware...

Yeah, that was a strange little oddity. Tried out a demo unit at a store...worked well in the Punch-Out game that it was paired with...but couldn't imagine spending the money on it for anything else. And Broderbund did more than those NES game publishing bits...Lode Runner! Print Shop, fool! And a buncha cool pinball games and stuff for the Apple ][ (and others), damn it.

Dude, I probably killed about a hundred trees just messing around with Print Shop as a kid. That's one of the reasons I started getting Broderbund NES games: brand loyalty! :D

The Revolution will realise the dreams of the NES
