What's your favorite piece of technology from the last decade?

I have to go with the iPhone (4s) to be exact.
The design is simply beautiful
The iPhone alone was revolutionary
Carrying the Internet in your pocket and throw in the app store.

What's yours?

Smartphones in general.

Tablets are second.

Smartphones are so useful, and they can serve any amount of recreational uses as well (Samsung Galaxy Beam, Xperia Play, etc.).

Tablets are as close as we can get right now to electronic paper.

PSP, mostly for the fact I could carry my favourite classics around with me whenever I wanted to play them (through emulation I mean).

It's trite, but I'm gonna have to agree with the OP.

It, along with my first iPhone/smartphones in general, is the first technology product where it never sets into "been there done that"... I still have as much enthusiasm for it as I did 4 years ago. I still marvel at how much it's changed life/society. It's like we're living in a daily science fiction reality.

Love my 4S.

LCD panel tech, both in monitors then later in handhleds. Without it, you be reading this on a huge CRT or some joke of a mobile smartphone.

Smartphone jammers.

(j/k.. kinda.)

Umm.. I tend to like the improvements in solar panel efficiency/production from the past ten years.

I'm a luddite at heart, so this is a difficult thread for me.

The OP didn't even give the first reply a chance to "nail it." Good job breaking a GAF tradition, OP. ;p

I gotta agree, seriously, though. The iPhone was a world changer. Definitely my favorite piece of tech, from the last decade. It's not even close.

In 2004, I got this little baby, a Nokia 6230.

In 2001 phones didn't even have colour displays and only offered ugly mono sounds, and suddenly I could take videos and have mp3 songs as ringtones and play decent games.

This phone really blew me away and it became clear that a revolution was starting.

It's funny because you wouldn't think that an Internet connected smartphone would be such a game changer in the years before. We all knew that good Internet browsing was destined to come to mainstream phones eventually... But what wasn't obvious was all of the ways that things like social networking, location aware maps, notifications, etc, would really turn our lives upside down and make the connection of the web omnipresent in our daily routine.

I remember my first impetus to buy an iPhone was "oh it has real games now, like those phones in Japan." I got so much more than I bargained for ;)

/cosigns smartphone

I'd have to go with my Evo, but I'm sure if the Galaxy or something else had been out at the time, that's what I would've gone with and I'd instead be saying that.

The iPhone 4 and 4S are from this decade though...

Ya.....when someone says "the last decade" it means in the last ten years. If he has asked what was your favorite tech from "last decade" (no "the") it would mean 2000-2010.

Anyways. If I would say the Nook touch in my personal favorite.

Another vote for iPhone.

When I got my iPhone 3G, it was the first time since playing the original Super Mario Bros. that I felt like someone had just handed me something from the future.

In that case I will cast my vote for the either the iPhone 4 or XBox 360.

My OG launch iPhone, and I still have it around here somewhere. All the of the subsequent versions were better, but none can match the astonishment I felt over the original.

It is the iphone 3g...there really can be no argument. Astounding interface and form factor (which along made the launch iphone great) got combined with 3g speed, an unbelievable app store and gps. Game over.

I guess my launch PS3 (that could play PS2 games)?

I've still never had a smartphone. The plans for them are way too expensive for me. And tablets seem utterly pointless to me.

#1: Nexus One: first smartphone... bought on release.
#2: Galaxy Nexus: second smartphone... bought on release.

Yea, I'm cool

I'm really struggling to understand how smartphones are "gamechangers". I have one and while there are some nice features they just don't justify the cost to me. I'm definitely considering "downgrading" when my contract expires.

This is not a thread about gamechangers. This is a thread about "your favorite piece of technology from the last decade".

Being able to readily access the internet on a computer that fits it my pocket pretty much where ever I go isnt "gamechanging"?
