When was the last time you bought a comic book for just $0.25?

Soon, you'll be able to answer that question with "June, fool! Now shut the hell up Spike." :)

G.I. JOE #0

With the precision of a military exercise, Devil’s Due has provided Newsarama with an 8-preview of G.I. JOE #0, June’s special $0.25 prelude to the new ongoing series G.I.JOE: America's Elite, by writer Joe Casey and artists Stefano Caseilli & Sunder Raj.

Taking place a year after the events of G.I. Joe #43 (the finale of the current series), but in the same continuity, the new series promises major changes for some characters on both sides – Joe and Cobra … the ones that survive, that is.

Focusing on a smaller, more streamlined team with a rotating cast of guest stars; Devil’s Due is altering the way the Joe’s operate along with the structure of Cobra, to make the series more accessible to new and casual readers.

But according to DDP, one thing will remain the same, the G.I. Joe team will be more resolved than ever in their mission to defend freedom from the likes of Cobra... and everything ELSE that threatens America. And they’ll need that resolve when in an even more chaotic world, “a tragedy of mythic proportions is visited upon Chicago, and the President must summon the country’s greatest warrior to lead a new G.I. Joe team!”

That's followed up in July with GI Joe: America's Elite #1:

G.I. JOE #1

Written by Joe Casey, art by Stefano Caselli and Sunder Raj.

Beginning a New Era of Greatness! Issue Zero gave you a taste of what Joe Casey's got in store for G.I. Joe -- but now, the fun really begins! Cobra has been splintered...the Red Shadows have gone back into hiding...but the war has only just begun! Chicago has suffered a disaster of unimaginable magnitude. The question is -- was it the result of an attack, or was it a horrible accident? The President has scrambled the Joes to find out -- but what they discover will come as an even greater shock -- almost as great a shock as the identity of their new advisor!

32 pages, $2.95.

So it looks like eight lead characters judging by the "?" blanks on page 2-3, assuming those are blacked out character portraits. The cover for #0 has eight characters too, so it's a safe bet. That works for me, because I've always felt that the concept of GI Joe worked best as a small Spec Ops unit with minimal support, and not as the "more figures, more vehicles" army unto itself that it ended up becoming thanks to the toy line. I wonder who they could all be...

1. Snake Eyes
2. Scarlett
3. Storm Shadow (hood?)
4. Roadblock
5. Stalker
6. Flint
7. Duke (blonde guy?)
8. Shipwreck (blue cap???)

Assuming none of those characters died in the last series, that is.

I don't recall buying any for 25 cents, but I have bought a shitload for 50 cents at a local farmer's market. This guy brings in huge boxes of them. Nothing spectacular in it of course, but some somewhat older Spidermans, X-Mens, Fantastic Fours, Ghost Riders, etc.

The last one I bought was that crappy Conan comic.

Before that it was the crappy Fantastic Four quarter issue, IIRC.

Screw quarter comics. That's 25 cents better used towards something I've a long term interest in reading and not just throwing money away. >:|

I picked up the first six issues of Ultimate Fantastic Four for a quarter a piece last month.

Should've thought better; they were crap. That'll be $1.50 I'll never get back.

I thought it was nine cents, if we're talking about the same one.

Last comic I bought for 25 cents was a Namor comic I think.
