Where are the cool GB Micro face plates?

Didn't Nintendo tout the interchangeable face plates as one of the Micro's selling points? All teh cool face plates so far are only sold in system bundles :(

Worse: Most of them are only available in Japan. All we've got so far in the West is that bastardized Famicom Micro (20th Anniversary of ?).

Actually, I was perusing Nintendo.co.jp yesterday and there are no faceplates for them either.

The US micros come with like 3 face plates each but the Jp micros, although they come in more monocolor models, only come with the one.

Guess how many faceplates you can get in Europe?

Freaking NONE, besides the one on the Micro by default. How the fuck am I gonna replace my scratched up screen... :S

I was wondering this, too. I was hoping, at the last minute, that Nintendo would announce the FFIV one as a pre-order deal. But they didn't. Now, I'm hoping that they reveal they'll send you one if you register the game. But I don't know what the deal is. I guess sales have been so underwhelming, they're not going to bother that much.

I'd love to see an Amano one for when FFVI comes out.

I think the bundle defeats the whole purpose of the faceplate. Can you buy just the FFIV faceplate in Japan? If not that's kinda lame.

I'm happy with my camo on black combo for now. :D

I was hoping for some thrid parties to come up with their own faceplates. But I guess that hasn't happened yet.

And one for Final Fantasy V, too. Also, if they do go that route, they better not make it only available by forcing you to buy a whole new micro simply to get the faceplate(s).

My mistake. I thought it was supposed to have the word Famicom on it, but it looks like the Japanese one didn't had it either.

I think the Japanese ones, or at least some of them, had "Happy! Mario 20th" on the back with a wreath. The American one doesn't.

I own all of the official US faceplates, but I hear the NoA online store is NO LONGER carrying the extras that came with the two US packages. They only sell Silver and Black now, and not the additional 4. I snagged all 6 when I could, however.

We Aussie only get one other colour, in my Black one I got a Blue one and thats it and no Lanyard booo!

Anyway I saw at EB for $14AU this clear one were you can put your own designs in it like on the Nokia 3200.. So I've got that but get have it till Xmas :lol

Yeah I was annoyed that the NOA store ran out of the others. I wanted to get the blue shell looking one :(

If anyone is willing to offer, lemme know...

Hopefully I'm ordering the 20th Anniversary (Famicom) edition tomorrow, but I'm SO tempted to get the one with the black body and buy a black faceplate from Nintendo to get a fully black one instead, looks SO good... decisions decisions :(

Oh and on the official site, it says "limited edition" on all of them, I guess they don't mean to continue producing Micro much longer or what?

Sales of the GBA last month were close to a million. I doubt they'll disontinue teh sexy Micro.

Combining the Final Fantasy face plate w/ the black Micro... WOAH!!!

I'm really freakin' blown away with how sturdy the Famicom (japanese) faceplate is --- I've had it since launch (haven't used a pouch, just straight in the pocket and bags) and NO scratches ---- nothing at all, completely crisp with not even any hairline scratches.
I can wipe the Famicom one clean, and it's as crisp as the day I pulled it out the box....

on the flipside, I've had a silver NA micro since they've launched - and the screen already has more hairline scratches than the average PSP, and I've used it less....

Edit:

From Pelican, coming out on Dec 28th, I like the white one, should look nice on a black Micro, just hope the quality is not cheapish.

looks like those are just "gel skin covers" : [

I traded with another GAFfer. He bought the Black system, I bought the Silver, we swapped packages MINUS our Black/Silver faceplates. He wound up with an all silver unit, as a consequence, and I an all black. :D

Also got an all black Micro. Only drawback is that fingerprints and scratches can be seen so easily comparing to the original silver one.

But I don't care, cause it looks so good.

Ooh, good. I asked for a Micro for Christmas, but I didn't specify the color because I didn't know which matchup I liked. I liked the black front (less distracting) but not the silver casing.

Hopefully I wind up with the silver-front, so I can go buy a black plate and be cool like you.

Haha, i intended to get the Silver Micro, and i was a bit bummed about getting a black one.

It took me a good while to figure it's aesthetically more pleasing to mix & match black w/ any other color.

Er what the... are you saying the Black micro comes with a black faceplate but silver back, and the Silver micro comes with a silver faceplate but black back?

Is it too late to request a color?

Yea. I'm leaning towards black, but I'd be happy with Silver. I'd prefer a black faceplate (less distracting), but I think I like the silver unit. I don't know, I've never seen them in person (besides boxes behind glass).

I'd be happy with either.

No, the other way around.

Whichever way, that's really freaking stupid.

All the Japanese micros come with matching backs & faceplates. Why does NoA do the two-tone crap?

Got me. It's confused retailers too.

So I just picked up a black micro yesterday... aside from one sole package of TERRIBLY designed Pelican faceplates, I've yet to see any in stores. Are third parties not even doing these?

Also, does anyone know where I could get the faceplates that came in the silver micro's packaging? Or is anyone willing to sell them? I know I can buy the silver and famicom ones via nintendo's store... but I kinda want the blue Pythagorus-looking spiral one a lot.
