I'm in a similar predicament. I don't have a TV anymore and SNL is my favorite show. (Yes, a lot of sketches suck, but skits and improv are always interesting)

BTW, how did Tina and Amy do in Weekend Update?

Eh, I like Poehler, but she was too high strung and her delivery was all over the place. She doesn't seem particularly apt to delivering one line gags. I don't know, I can't help but think they did a whole bunch of auditions and then Fey just chose her buddy.

In addition, the segment is at its most unprofessional. Constantly stopping mid-joke or doing small little improv mentions to the other anchor that are mostly just fun for them.

The only skit that made me laugh at all was when Ben Affleck and those cliche characters were trapped on an escalator.

Yeah, but the "New Jersey Resident" and "Hollywood Actor" fucking ruled.

I thought the Carville sketch and the Boner Juice were well done.

Amy needs some time behind the desk before I make a judgement, though a preliminary ruling would be EH. These things take time, however....for that matter, I never Fallon was that great behind the desk.

Fey's just has that newsanchor delivery down pat, so whomever is sitting beside her is going to look not as polished.

I stopped after the escalator sketch did nothing for me.

The opening was fine, Baldwin's little cameo was good enough for me, but the rest sucked shit.

On Update, I think it's obvious why they chose to let Poehler host it. The only character, for the most part, that she does appear as on Update is Michael Jackson, and her Michael Jackson sucks ass. While I think Meyers or Forte would be far better at it, they do too many characters for it to work.

She didn't do a terrible job. She needs to get used to it, and I think in time she'll get into a groove.

Sounds pretty dorky...

Weekend Update was alright. WAY better with Jimmy though.
A lot of the jokes last night actually revolved around Jimmy's absence..

The show, as a whole, was pretty good though.
Lots of good political satire.

btw, is Will Forte still doing the Dubya impression (while holding a big slurpee) ?
Er... yes... minus the slurpee. He's alright, but anyone after Ferrell just pales in comparison. Seth Meyers does a really good Kerry though.

I thought the opening really dragged however. There was really only one gag about Bush, being his repetitive nature, and let's face it, every news program was mocking this just as well a minute after the debate was over, not to mention The Daily Show. Plus it annoyed me that they didn't even follow the real debate format, with Lehrer asking direct follow-up questions. They didn't have to break form like that back when they destroyed Gore and Bush in the 2000 debate parodies.
