Where's the 1up show?? (Jan 20)

Great show, again!! Loved the Derek Jeter ending.

Battlefield 2 - WOW. PDZ multiplayer will likely get shelved when this comes out.

Che, I would buy a DVD of all the season 1 shows in a heartbeat. I am sure many on this board would as well. Make it happen, man.

I am right there with you on Battlefield 360 Denogg. I like PDZ on live but Battlefield will likely cause most people to forget PDZ ever existed. Although the Dark Ops modes are still very cool and unique to PDZ.

I'm also with you on the 1up DVD idea. Make it happen Che! $19.99 = sold

Edit: Can someone explain why it's taking FOREVER to download the quicktime version of the new episode?

I hope Battlefield 2 has a solid framerate and I will be able to throw away PDZ and never look back. BF2 looks really good.

Great show, as usual.

The song gives me a strong Elastica vibe, which I love.

If only you could try to get some better audio recording while you guys are chatting... English is my second language, and sometimes the voices are not very clear. Just if only :)

PDZ dark ops rocks because its not fast paced and has vehicles but the games dont depend on them BF2 is completely different so doubt it will compete directly with pdz.

Wow, Battlefield 2 looked great. That's one more tantalizing 360 title, seeing as my PC cannot cope with the game. A few more titles like that, and it may be time to pick up a 360 soon. :P

Same here, looks like BF: Modern Combat 360 will be where I go to get my BF fix.

ARG !!!!

fuck you guys !! i know i will be buying BF2MC ... and i will play it online too ....

but i will be damned if i drop PDZ for it !!! BF2MC has no medics, the guns come with the characters, the guns are boring old plain guns, there is no cover move....it will be wicked fun though...

but seriously !!! FUCK YOU GUYS IF YOU STOP PLAYING PDZ WHEN THIS COMES OUT

asses :( ....PDZ shal be the main FPS untill PD 2 comes out ! BELIVE !

Yeah, PDZ and BF:MC are plenty different so I'm pretty sure PDZ won't outright die when BF:MC comes out. Still, what's gonna happen is what always happens -- new game releases and folks gravitate towards it because they're sick of the older shit.

BF:MC will be 24 players online... I hope it'll have a dark ops like mode where you really have to be more tactical (SOCOM-style) or else you'll have to sit out the round after you die.

Also, I'm happy to say that I'm back into my SC3 groove. DOA4, fuck you!

Heh, whoever said in another thread that DOA4 seemed like it was developed for the Super Dreamcast was spot on. Battlefield and Splinter Cell look like they run at 20fps or something.

This show was pretty bleh. I still think the Milky show is the best one yet.

Yes Dark ops style mode for BF MC would be awesome. Although if it is like past BF games this option won't be in.

Oh, and I received the SC3 demo in the mail today. What a slow and sluggish game, with unresponsive controls compared to the fast paced nature of DoA4! Horrible! I can't believe you like that broken mess over DoA4.

BF2 looked really fuckin good. Just the kinda game that should thrive on 360.

But I have a question for Che or anyone else that got a chance to play Splinter Cell for PSP. Was the framerate as choppy as it was in the video, or was that due to how it got captured?

....

I don't even know what to say to that. :) SC3's fighting engine may not be as good as SC2 or SC, but to say that it's sluggish and unresponsive... well, to each their own I guess!

DOA4 is everyman's fighting game. Which is cool, if you're into that sort of thing.

Don't worry about Mrbob. He's insane (and wrong).

You guys should take a look at the two upcoming Mega Man remakes for PSP in next week's episode or the week after.. or something.

1Up show needs some Mega Man lovin'.

Good descriptor there. Just caught the show, can't disagree with the faults, but viewing this franchise in the same light as other second-tier contempories such as Bloody Roar or Mortal Kombat, you gain a better perspective on what this game actually does well. Glorifying it to the same reaches as a VF4 is probably a lost cause, and only further propels that game into untouchable status. Not to say DOA4 deserves pity points for merely being serviceable, nor should the engine flaws get a free pass, but it's improving.

The reaction I get from witnessing the stunt-like animations, speedy pick-up games, and the emotional impact of a last-ditch 'pull the rug out from under" reversal, all speak well to the experience. I don't find the desire to sit and really give it the dedication of an SC3 or VF4, but I'll happily keep rolling the dice at the character select longer than most similar games keep my attention.

Perhaps if I stopped playing DoA4, SC3 feels more normal. When I hop from a ton of DoA4 matches to play SC3 everything feels like it is going in slow motion, and I have to wait too long for the weapon animations to finish before planning my attacks.

It's all right, though. At least we have PDZ to agree upon!

Yep, in fact, the flow of DOA4 feels a lot like the Bloody Roar games to me. Even the last ditch mash combo for an upset victory. Yes, and the fact that a B-tiered fighting engine keeps me coming back for more says something about DOA4's "fun factor" (insert Gamepro's review guy face with hair standing on end and a big ol' thumbs up).

You also can't ignore the slim competition at the moment. Had Namco delivered Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection or an SC3 1.1 port alongside RR6 at launch(as they still should!), then that equivocal 'funfactor' might not shine so brightly. Sure lines would be drawn and fans would flock to respective camps; but in the face of selective choice on our shiny new 360's, I don't think we'd see the same generosity. Or maybe I'm assuming too much.

I know I would be quick to shelf it in place of a Namco brawler; until then, it fills the void decently enough.

Yeah, I rented SCIII a while back and didn't like it nearly as much as II, for a few reasons, chief among them was the lame single player. Vs. was fine, but I still prefer II. I wish Namco would port III over and put it online, with no epic loading times and lame stories to follow in single player. (and in hd, of course)

Loving DOA4, despite how much of a critical-fest it is. I'm sure I'll eventually get over how glorious it looks, and stop playing it, but I don't see myself quitting DOA online anytime soon. Except for the lag, maybe. That sucks. Oh, and how the game deleted my god damned save.

pdz ftw btw

I don't have DOA4, but from what I saw from the show's footage, it looks more or so like DOA Ultimate (gameplay wise). Well, I guess that's not a bad thing if you like it, but 3D fighting games still look and feel a bit akward and clumsy. I'll go back playing SF Anniversary Edition on LIVE.

Great show as always. Do you guys get offers from publishers to feature their games since the show is getting so much deserved attention? It'd be cool if that's the case.

Is there more "filler" bits in this show? Cant stand those.

Che's cool and everything, but its painful to watch you guys trying to be funny. Sorry

Finally got around to watching the show... Overall the show just has great flow. I don't know really how to describe it, but you guys keep the audience interested throughout the show even when your showing a game that I might not be interested in. The cutbacks to the office are great. Showing the kid getting assigned the Jeter interview, showing him telling Che it was great, and then showing how it really went was some damn good production work.

As far as the games go... I wish I had a PS2 for KHII, SC:Essentials looks like it holds true to the series, and Battlefield looks amazing. My only complaint is the non-destructable environments. When the grenade got lobbed it did absolutely no damage to the cement pillars.

I promise, you will see MUCH less of me on the 1UP Show in 2006. I'm just not cut out to be in front of a camera and that fact is becoming more and more apparent to me. :) Fortunately, we have Garnett Lee, Mark Macdonald, and Matt Leone to rock the lens.

Oh, and the ladies of course... Jane, Kimi, Jen... etc.

Yep. It's just great entertainment overall.

More ladies... mo better, but don't be so critical of yourself. Your "on screen" presence is just fine. Then again... maybe you'll have more time to update this.

Heh. These are always such nasty dick-sucking threads, but.. wtf that's how it's supposed to be so..

Garnett Lee Damn, that guy's constantly my favourite interviewer/reviewer person in these. Great!

Not quite hard gay yet, so I won't bring out my more comprehensive list of reasons why Garnett Lee rocks the 1upshow.

damn strait !

....im still gonna buy BF2 though ...sp looks awesome, and mp will be fun once and a while....but unless its got something close to Dark Ops (which it doesnt), i really wont care about mp in the end. just fun to run around shoot things then get in a tank and blow stuff up....but really without the cover move, reviving and having to use much tactics at all wont keep me interested.

well...me you and mr.boob can still play at least !

Fixed, Or so we can hope .

This is the second season and the 1up show is looking like its here to stay. GAF as a whole (me included) should start being more picky/harder on the 1up crew. The more constructive criticism we give, the better the show will become.

What were getting now is superb. But what's next? How can the 1up show evolve into something greater than it is now? We should start to expect more before the show starts to stagnate.

Che, you got it wrong. You are the 1up show, the rest (imo) dont really matter.

The bit when you said "my beer is fizzing up with excitement" when interviewing fullauto guy had me chuckling

TheCheShow, id subscibe to that. Less of them, more of you! (im not gay)

Che = My boi

I.. just want to fit in. Hehe.

The 1UP show was reeeeeally good this week, Che. It seemed a lot more focused than prior efforts. Good work. New Splinter Cell looks pretty hot.

I actually think for a videogame show, you guys do a pretty good job of portraying a decent place to work and manage to ditch a little bit of the dorkyness associated with gaming.

Che seems pretty natural in front of the camera as well, I think the show needs a little more of that mean guy abusing interns though :lol

the show was really "tight" and professional this week. it seemed like you guys are really polishing little parts of the show here and there (the intro song sounded better this week for some reason - tho maybe that's my new sound card drivers). great show overall and glad to see you improving in the places you can. can't wait for next week.

p.s. che, please say it aint so! you are the best 1up show personality. sometimes i hate watching the interns or new hires cause they, well, kinda suck. :lol watching you or the other dude (big dude with the glasses, nice guy and also does great on the show) are the main reasons I watch. you bring credibility to gaming, and to the show. please keep "rocking the lens"!

Yeah, the dudes at 1UP look like normal people with an unhealthy obession with games, but at least they seem normal on camera, and that's what matters :P

For comparison, just look at the guys at Gamespot, they animate like fucking PSX games on camera and look so awkward that you just KNOW they were the losers playing warhammer and magic back in HS. Bleh.

If it aint broke, don't fix it. Right now I'm happy with the mix of games, the outdoor improvs, and the office humor. The events (X03, TGS, E3, etc.) will get special shows which will change the flow now and again. Keep it just like it is.
