Which version of Capcom Classics Collection Should I Get?

It's not a question of whether or not I want this game, I'm just curious if there's a superior version. Has anyone played both the PS2 and Xbox versions? Is one any better than the other?

From everything that I have read and played, the two versions are for the most part identical. It all comes down to a preference of controllers and even that can be bypassed by convertors. Personally, I went with the PS2 version because I prefer the d-pad on the DS2.

Strider

Huh. Bummer: No Street Fighter or "Ghosts" game. Plus: Strider and Final Fight!

Always consider that the Xbox version will probably not play on 360, the PS2 version will likely work on the PS3. So if the differences are minor, to keep the game in your collection without keeping your regular xbox, get the PS2 version. (Besides, I like the dpad more)

Track down a copy of Street Fighter Collection 2 for PlayStation.

Games run at the correct speeds. Full-screen, undistorted video--no black borders around the edges nor a need to stretch (read: distort) the picture to fit more (but not all) of the screen. Music and sound effects are correctly pitched. And minimal load times when playing it on a PS2 with the disc speed set to fast.

The other nineteen games? Who cares?

Not quite.

The graphics and gameplay in the Super games are almost identical to what you remember. Every frame of original animation appears intact, and there isn't any noticeable slowdown. However, the graphics do appear a bit fuzzy.

Still, it will probably remain the most accurate representations of Super Street Fighter II and Super Street Fighter II Turbo playable on a current generation console for some time. (If there ever is a Capcom Classics Collection Volume 2, I fully expect it to include the games from the first Street Fighter Collection, but like Capcom Classics Collection Volume 1, not full-screen.)

I was bored, futzing around with the Street Fighter 2 games on Capcom Classics Collection, when I figured "what the hell, why not put together a couple comparison shots?" Whipped out my dogeared copy of Street Fighter Collection 2 for PSX and took some screengrabs.

They don't look as pretty as they should, since my S-Video cable is twisted all to hell, but these should at least get the point across that the versions of SF2 on Capcom Classics are "windowboxed" and filtered. Even though you can increase the size of the graphics, there's still a little bit of black visible all around (unless your TV has some heinous overscan).

Original PS1 Street Fighter Collection 2 for the win!

Xbox version:

+ 480p
+ slightly faster load times
+ slightly better sound
- Doesn't work on X360 - probably unlikely to ever work
- Controller S

PS2 version:

+ Better D-pad
+ Very likely to work on PS3
- 480i only

I went with the PS2 version for better odds of future compatibility...the same reason I've gone with the PS2 version of every third party game since last May. =/

That's good to know. I can get it at Costco (with some crappy racing game) for about $10 cheaper than anywhere else, but only the PS2 version. I can handle a little more loading and funky sounds in exchange for $10 more in my pocket and the trade-in credit from the crappy racer.

I played the PS2 briefly and was not impressed by the selection of games. Bionic Commando is the arcade version, not NES. Good old Commando was the only game that held my interest.

The PSP version sounds much better...Magic Sword!

do all games in the xbox version run at 480p?

QFT. A year from now, when your PS2 and X-Box are either sold or collecting dust in the closet, being able to play CCC on PS3 >>>>>> 1 second faster load times on XBox.

When will Capcom bother including the original Street Fighter into one of these compilations?

Never. Capcom thinks Street Fighter 1 sucks and is too embarrassed to rerelease it.

Heh. I'd never played Mercs before this super collection. Pretty cool game. MERCS!
