Okay, okay, so this thread really is about 40 years late, but I just got round to White Light / White Heat by VU, and anyone in this thread right now -- you've got it too, right?

Anyway, I've been listening to The Gift and (over and over again) Lady Godiva's Operation all night. They're easily my favourite tracks, and I've never heard either before. I like them so much that, well, I need more of the same already, and seeing as I haven't had much exposure to this sort of sound, I'm a little lost. I've had VU & Nico for a fair old time, but the sound there is different -- it's too clean. I want something with a similar sound, and probably from the same era, with, you know, rolling drums... a laid-back, lazy, 60s groove... I don't know. I can't believe I just used the word "groove".

Suggestions and recommendations please!

David Bowie--Live in Santa Monica 1972, in which he covers White Light/White Heat and makes the song his own. (I actually clicked on this thread expecting it to be about Bowie, since that's considered one of his signature songs.)

I'd love to help ya but off hand I can't think of anything from the 60's itself with that sort of sound. Of course, a ton of bands in the 90's copped VU's sound though :/.
