Who doesn't own a Nintendo DS yet and why?

I still have my Phat DS, maybe i'll get the Lite on xmas, but the console now is already $130, with a cool redesign and awesome games.. And still there are some people who doesn't have one yet?

I'm the only person in my family with one... and well, I'm the only person who likes portable games and really has time for games anyway. I'm the only person with any real interest in games other than my younger brother in my family.

there are some good games but the only one I regularly replay is Mario Kart.
Metroid Hunters sucked. New SMB was fun but only until one playthrough.
I haven't been impressed with the game selection so far.
(i haven't played phoenix wright or trauma center yet)

I dont, because I have a psp and dont do much gaming to begin with.
Also, the types of games on the DS dont interest me at all.

$$$

I already have a PSP that fufills my portable need nicely. I want to get one eventually to play NSMB and Castlevania, though. Maybe when it hits $100 or after christmas.

I don't have one.

It's because I have no real reason to own portable systems. I see no point in shelving out another $150+ or so when I only play games at home anyway and I really prefer a TV then. Sure, I love Castlevania etc and want to play the latest installments, but it's just not worth it for me. Maybe in a year or so with some price drops. :P

Even though I loved my GBA 'n stuff, I never took it outside. I take my phone, music, etc outside, but that's more than enough to carry with me. Playing videogames on the move will only cause me to walk up against a lamppost or make me miss my busstop. Not to mention it makes ya look like a geek. :P

The only correct answers are:

1. I can't afford it
2. I hate gaming
3. Nintendo killed my family

For me time and money are most responsible for why I don't own other consoles and handhelds not from Nintendo. Hopefully that'll change once I'm no longer a student and have a full-time job.

And dont have one, and the reasons are that I dont game that much these days, and I absolutely detest handhelds.

I'm thinking the opposite, as a student I just bum around all day and play, but when I get a full-time job (soon I hope) I won't have the time anymore.

I always have, even back when I was 12 or so and at the height of my gamerness. I guess I just have always seen them as subpar or inferior to traditional consoles on a nice big television.

Whenever I'm travelling I usually just listen to music or watch video on my mp3 player.
So I really don't have a need for a portable gaming device.

Exactly, when I'm at home I'd be playing on the PC. When I'm out, I'd either be driving to get to somewhere, or be at work. Portable gaming have very little use in my lifestyle at the moment.

I think you're missing the point there. It's not about 'need'. It's about the awesome games available for the handheld itself.

Then again, my perspective might be skewed since I've always seen myself as a handheld gamer first, and a console gamer second.

I've owned one twice but will never get it a third time.

The biggest reason is simply that I'm never in a position where I need portable gaming. I'm on a bus for maybe 5-6 minutes at most at a time and when I'm in classes, I prefer to pay attention. More so, I think that playing a portable at home is pretty dumb when I have both a TV and a Laptop. So the portability means nothing to me.

The second biggest reason is that I'm curbing my gaming spending. After acquiring $4000 in debt mostly for gaming and finally paid it off, never again. I did get an Xbox 360 while paying it off almost impulsively. So I have it now. I see no need to own a DS Lite right now when I already have a system with more games than I have time to play them. Adding another machine will either mean that I will take time away from other things to game or it will barely get used. Either way, its not a good deal.

Third reason is that I barely play games anymore. I got Samurai Warriors 2 for the 360 two days ago and have been playing that. Before that though, I hadn't played in two weeks except for a quick game of NFS Most Wanted or a quick Survival match in DOA4. I just have other things to do than play games. Its a small hobby to me and owning one machine is fine enough for me.

I had a DS for awhile, but unfortunately someone stole it. I am going to buy a DS Lite today, though. Probably NSMB. I haven't even gotten a chance to play it yet.

I'd rather be using the time I have to play games at home to play PC or console games which offer gaming experiences built for the home and have vastly superior presentation and most of the time, depth.

sometimes I feel like just picking up and playing a game I don't have to think about. When I come home from work sometimes I'm just too tired to get into something like Oblivion even though I love that game. But starting up mario kart for some fun is pretty easy.

For some quick fun I usually just fire up PGR3.

Then watch movies or read books, story have nothing to do with video, if there's a great story it's cool, but ****, the important is gameplay not story.
No, I'll play games that have a satisfying story for me and good gameplay, thank you!

BTW, I also read books and watch movies, thank you!

Games that have a satisfying story and good gameplay are pretty rare. But it's not like a handheld is incapable of delivering both. Fire Emblem comes to mind.

I don't. The games and the amount of time I'd (rarely) play them doesn't justify the cost. I've never cared for handhelds. In fact, outside of Tetris and Pokemon, I've never really bothered with them at all.

I love the DSlite I love it so much, it's pretty much the only system I play often.

and also being compatible with GBA games help a lot

and also portability is pretty much the best thing to happen to games ever.

*goes back to play Megaman Zero4*

I'm seriously considering spending the majority of my paycheck on DS games today (and some GBA stuff I missed as I never had one of those believe it or not)

Thing is, unless you live in Japan and understand Japanese, the DS is just a great choice as the PSP would be for anyone interested in those types of games.

P.S. This topic was a bad idea.

also...

BUY MEGAMAN ZX :)

the game is hot hot hot hot. my goty so far.

and people that say it doesnt have good games.... right :lol

I don't own a DS or any portable other than my PocketPC.
I don't see any games that really interest me for any of the handhelds.

I don't really have time to game on a handheld anyway, I can't play when driving to work... I can't play when I'm at work and when I'm at home why would I play on a 4" screen when I can game on my 42" RP LCD TV or 21" CRT monitor?

I don't really understand the excitement with playing games on the DS or on the PSP to be honest.

I just can't get myself to buy it. I have a GCN waiting for me with 10+ great games and no DS game is going to make me buying the handheld by itself. I guess I'll wait a little longer before buying it

not enough great games for it. and for the record; New Super Mario Bros is a perfect example of a good/ok game, not a great game.

If Tingle rpg is released in english, I will perhaps buy one.

the list of must-haves:

Pheonix wright
Contact
Trauma Center
Tingle RPG
Bleach DS(2)
....

It's crazy that some of you actually think the DS lineup's been so solid so far. Hasn't it been like, 3 months since the last noteworthy game (NSMB) came out for the system? And even then, it was a pretty terrible game.
