Who needs Cable when you've got GBStv?!

You knew it had to happen eventually. SomethingAwful gets its own television channel.

http://www.gbstv.info

You can stream it through a few different programs, I use Winamp 5, myself.

Programming inclues:
-Random interesting/funny video clips (anything from home-made stuff to Conan O'Brien skits and so on)
-Videos of musical performances
-MST3K skits/full episodes
-Keven Periera's Hour of Power
-Interesting science programs like episodes of Eyes of Nye and Hawking documentaries
-Lots of stuff I'm sure I haven't seen yet

Check out the page above for the current play-list and programming catalogue.

Needless to say, this is an awesome idea. There's almost always something interesting enough to leave on in the background when there's nothing on the tube and the stream is surprisingly stable.

So awesome!

I really really really wish there was a way to watch this on Mac. :(

There's no mac players that will play the format. There was already a huge thread about it in GBS.

Yeah, just a note. This is still the "test stream" and while its entertaining enough, when it finally goes LIVE there will be programming blocks. Looks like the current idea is something like this:

-8 hour programming block
-4 hour request block
-8 hour programming block (for Europeans, same content as first one)
-4 hour request block (different content from first)

There also seems to be a plan to broadcast an episode of MST3K every night at 8.

Likely, we'll see more goon-created content, too. Like live shows or review programs or whatever the hell else they come up with.

Is there a python script out for XBMC?

Does this help?

And yes, you need Windows to watch it. Mac support seems out of the question at the moment (something to do with the scripting or whatever, the format they use wasn't coded for macs, but a previous version was, they have to find a way to utilize that format without sacrificing stuff or re-encoding all the videos). As for Linux, I think there may be a way to do that, but I'm no expert on it.

This is really cool. I'm digging the Eyes of Nye show.
Hell yeah. It's a shame this show isn't nationally syndicated. Now everyone can watch.

PS: it's on right now and it's the one with Adam and Drew :D

HOLY SHIT EYES OF NYE?! I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS SHOW EVER SINCE I HEARD ABOUT IT! /me watches...it better still be on!

IT'S OVAH!!! Great episode, too. Maybe some of the retarded interweb knowitall potheads watched it and got some sense knocked into them. Interesting theory by Dr Pinsky.

For Reference:

"Players known to work: Winamp 5 (FULL, not Lite), Mplayer, Totem, Xine, Xbox Media Center
Players known NOT to work: Anything on a Mac, VLC
Still unknown: Anything else"

Also, they'll play Eyes of Nye again, they usually play a couple each day.

You can look in the playlist schedule, though it seems to be messed up at the moment. Anything past the first few entries has been stuck there all day (i.e. it hasn't played). The best indicator is the "Now, Next, Then" on the main page.

To get it to work in mplayer you need to take the URL it tries to get stream.nsv from and remove the '/' before the ';'.
