Who owns a Samsung CRT HDTV? Need help!

I recently bought a Samsung TXP3071WH for my consoles and so far I'm loving it. The only problem with the TV that bugs me is the annoying beep noises that it makes when you turn the TV on or off. Drives me nuts, anybody with a Samsung line tv know how to turn this off or are we stuck with this crap? I can't find anything in the manual either.

I have the 32 in. version of that, I like the sounds, makes it seems futuristic... although something I don't like is the time it takes to change video-settings if you don't have the remote...

What? You guys that like it are insane!! :lol After I'm done playing games late at night with the volume really low, I turn if off and the sound it makes is so loud. I noticed that changing the video does take long too, if you use the remote it goes straight to Component 1/2, DVI, then regular TV. Without the remote it shuffles through 3 videos as well as those I listed above. Anyway, I can't find it under the sounds menu. All I see is mode, equalizer, Multi-track options, auto volume, digital output, and BBE. There has to be a way to remove it..

When you turn it off, it sounds to me like a gigantic CRT monitor. So there's this big sound whenever it's turned on, I can guess if someone in the other room has powered it up. And when it's turned off, it makes the sounds of static electricity.

on remote press MENU
Scroll down to SETUP and enter
go to MELODY and toggle the option.

Perhaps that model doesn't have the option to turn it off from the standard menu? I have the 26-in widescreen Samsung and I had to go into the service menu to get rid of the beep. If you need to go into the service menu, hit "mute 1 8 2 power" and that should bring it up. Be VERY careful what you do in the service menu though. It should be easy enough to find the volume for the melody thing, but don't touch the other parameters without writing every number down first for reference.

hmm I tried that but doesn't bring up anything.

I called Samsung and they said they can't find anything either. They told me to call back tomorrow and ask for Level 2 tech support, whatever that is.

You tried it with the TV off? I just checked my TV again. With it off, I hit mute 1 8 2 and then power, and then it comes on with a menu of deflection, video adjust 1, video adjust 2, etc. The option I wanted was clearly labled "melody volume" and it was in video adjust 1. Just bring that number down to 0.

@_@ Thank you so much! worked! Now to play with the settings. :D

Damn dude stop buying shit I'm about to buy! I'm looking at the same set! Where did you pick it up and for how much?

Got it at Best buy, it was an open box item for 499 (999 retail). Not the floor model but a customer return. :D I was wondering.. where did you get that command from, James? It's obviously not in the manual.

That's called the service menu and if I was you before changing anything you should write down every default setting in those menus. That way you have something you can go back to if you mess something up.

aerofx, the service menu code is something easily found for a lot of TVs just by doing an Internet search. As it turns out, the code I mentioned seems to work for a lot of Samsungs (it worked for my old 20-in non-hdtv samsung too). And as I and others have said, you definitely should write down everything before switching any settings.

:) yeah I know, I didn't mess with anything because I don't even know what they mean. Is there a site that might give an explaination for each line maybe?

$500!!!, that's a steal...

my comparable 32 in. (4:3, but 16:9 black bars I think is not too far from the 30 in.) cost $700 (almost 2 paychecks), and that's AFTER employee discount...

btw, it doesn't have HMDI which was the my major pick with it, but then I eventually went for it cause at least it had DVI and I was going to be using it mostly for progressive-scan videogames and DVD anyway...

hopefully I can find a good sound system this summer though to go along with the TV, I want to fully experience ProLogicII games like Resident Evil 4 and Metroid Prime...

I have a Samsung as well, a 26" Widescreen. I have a question someone can possibly answer.

When I set 4x3 games to "4x3" mode, I get these ugly grey bars on the sides. While those bars are ugly no matter what color they are, being grey only makes it worse. How would I go about changing them to black? Is it even possible?

whats wrong with that melody? Sounds refreshing on my samsung.

same here someone answer this man. However I dont believe you can change it.

I'm not sure if you can change it, but those gray bars are actually better because the screen is less likely to suffer from burn-in.

Grey bars, while a bit more obvious, keep the color temperature even so that colors don't bleed out on the sides. Someone I know actually measured and cut black-colored paper strips and tapes them up over the offending grey when watching 4:3 stuff on his Sammy.

That's possibly the first time I've ever heard of somebody making 4:3 frames, but it's definitely not unheard of for people with a 4:3 TV and lots of 16:9 DVDs. Every custom job I've seen that's not a complete frame has looked pretty silly, though (the full frames only looking silly depending on the material used). :)

I owned the worst DVD player ever, with a brand named Prima. Everytime you would eject the tray, it would make the sound of a bell. Plus it self-destructed and the quality is the shittiest I have ever seen in any DVD player.

But I can proudly say I owned the first DVD player below 100 dollars. :lol
