They never seem to last long and they always crack. Any advice on a good brand for a carpeted area?

You can buy a box of laminate flooring for cheap to use as a chair floor mat. It will hold up a lot better then plastic.

It’s not cheap but it won’t crack.
I put better wheels on my chair, like inline skate wheels and it works great.

A bit of a dilemma, because if you have hard dense carpet like that you're less in need of a mat. But also that solution probably would bow if you put it on more typical residential carpet.
No clue what kind of carpet OP has but if the mats are cracking its probably deep semi fluffy carpet.

Must be crappy mat quality these days. Mine is 15 years old and still goes fine.

Yeah lol, but it’s held up perfectly compared to the thin crap you find at Office Depot and such. I wanted to get glass but with little kids that like to throw and drop everything I didn’t want the shatter risk.
