Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
Cats became quite popular with the general public thanks to the internet yet we are still lacking that one iconic character to stand with the likes of Sonic the Hedgehog, Sly the Raccoon etc. Even Mega Man has his side-kick Rush and there's Okami with the wolf.
I mean there's Blinx:

and Kay (from Legend of Kay):
That's all I can think of. Is Ratchet from Ratchet and Clank a cat? (I know he's a Lombax but he's kind of cat like if I squint my eyes...)
It really shouldn't be hard to design a feline character that can appeal to the masses. Make him or her agile, somewhat sarcastic but likeable.
