Why didn't Twin Snakes include TAPPY's original music?

WHY.

It was a great soundtrack. At the very least I would've just re-scored those tracks to sound a little more modern.

Also, did anyone else like the PS1's voice acting better than the GC remake? I know that's odd, but it sounded better to me.

I wouldn't have minded TAPPY sticking around for the other games in the series too (not that I hate HGW's work - I just happen to like TAPPY's stuff). Any other game he's worked on since? :( Or did he work on MGS2-3?

Was the MGS theme even in Twin Snakes? I remember hearing just a snippet of it in the alternate credits music, but that's it.

Why? They wanted something new.

I love the original score, but I was very happy to hear new music with the game.

You can hear the MGS theme on one of the basement levels of the first area. Deliberately start an alert...

the Twin Snakes soundtrack is (for the most part) exlusively Norihiko Hibino. If you've got the soundtrack, you'll notice it's inordinately huge. He seems to have done a basic backing track for all levels of "alert" in each area. Nice idea, but it removes the movie-like OST feel that the PSX version would have even in MIDI form. It's a shame too, because this guy did some fucking awesome brass work on the MGS3 soundtrack. The bonus tracks of MGS:TTS are the best. They were used on most of the trailers.

the new "main theme" isn't bad either. Just a shame really. Because apart from the music, I actually found everything else to be ultimately superior - opinions of die hards aside.

There's nothing to stop us owning both the new game and the original. I know I do. Fucking awesome.

What's your opinions of the new cut scenes btw?

I can live with or without snake jumping on missiles, but Grey Fox (my favourite character in the game) is so fucking wonderful in TTS it beggars belief.

IIRC Tappy only composed 1 song in MGS: the theme song, which you hear at the end of both MGS and TTS (the second time through).

All you've gotta do is play MGS3 to realise just how much of a joke the direction in most of TS' cutscenes are.

To be fair though TTS will be > SOL to some ppl in terms of cut scenes. It's either Ghost in the Shell-esque art or it's absolute nonsense. I don't think TTS was handled perfectly but I think it's worth owning... in fact I think it's a must-own to be honest. I think Ocelot exudes the same flamboyance he does in the latter games, I think Liquid puts in a decent performance (and I loved the new fist fight). In general they amped the action and didnt enhance the characterisation to the same degree.... seing as they were changing some things, why not change everything? Make it a different cut altogether? The Mei Ling voice among other things differentiated it enough.. they may as well have gone the whole hog and given us something new in terms of story as well as visuals. Imperfect it may be, surely as an MGS fan you realise its still awesome though?

My only noteworthy qualm is the GC pad and that really couldn't be helped. This is one of the few titles/series where the double triggers and analog buttons really add to the experience. Not so much as to make TTS annoying or irrelevant, but enough to make you respect your Dual Shock or S pad.

MGS3 is the masterpiece of the series so far though. Big Boss' debreifing will live with me for a VERY long time. Simply awesome.

The only cutscene that benefitted from Kitamura's batshit insane direction is Grey Fox vs. Metal Gear. Everything else was crap

Correct. My guess is that it's the easy-to-remember name that messes with people's memories. :D

People blame SK for what happened to Twin Snakes. But really, sole responsibility in development falls on the one who controls everything, ie. Kojima. After all, it was Kojima who gave the directorial command over to Kitamura, and it was Kojima who greenlighted everything that SK did.

I despise the Metal Gear franchise to begin with, so it really doesn't even matter. I wish SK hadn't wasted their time with it.

Double-post! For a person that "despises" the MG franchise you seem to care enough to post the same shit on two threads. Troll much? :D

I sure did like those Grey Fox scenes as well. Every single one of them was awesome. This thread makes me want to replay either one of them.

TTS was a disappointment.

1- Graphics should have been better than SOL. Wasn't the case.
2- Music should have remained the same. Wasn't the case. I hated Norihiko Hibino until I played MGS3 with its awesome music. I forgave him. :lol
3- Cutscenes were too exagerated. Come on... and I though that Vamp walking on water was too much.
4- Voice overs were butched. Naomi and the Ninja had zero emotions in their voice. The Ninja fight in MGS1 was so intense ("Hurt me more!") while the one in TTS was devoid of any intensity. Snake, Liquid, Otacon, Ocelot and Campbell did a good performance though.

I love the MGS series, but I was let down by TTS.

You're talking about the cutscenes, not the entire game. SoL's cutscenes were fantastic. Just watch the end tanker sequence, which blows away anything in TS in terms of direction. Kitamura's problem when it comes to cutscenes is that he relies way too much on slow motion, over the top acrobatics, and constant camera cutting that doesn't allow you to follow the scene properly.

He can do really cool directing sometime. The end fight scene in Aragami that he did is kickass in terms of directing. He should've done something like that in TS.

so the one who made all the music in TTS also did the music in MGS3? (what about him doing anything for MGS2-MGS1 in terms of music?)

And what did Harry Gregson Williams do? He only created the main-theme?

I like TTS, although it pales in-comparison to what Kojima accomplished with the original. Would of liked it more if it had more extras.

How about the chance to play as Ninja? Or even Meryl? It almost seems like Konami kinda rushed this game out...

i love how dyack promosied or at least mentioned that Twin Snakes would come with loads of bonus materials. if by bonus materials, you mean a cameo by Mario and Yoshi and a Gamecube. oh, and that boss mode

i still like the original psone version more than the GC version. the snake interrogation video sucks, and again as mentioned above, looks like they just rushed this game. no vr missions, some framerate problems. i also love how snake moves his lips when he says "..." during the codec sequences

a lot of the feeling was lost imo. voice actors seem like they were tired of voicing the same script that they did years ago

it's a good game, but I would have much preferd if they kept the same cutscene style of the first, music and mood, I still prefer the original

Harry Gregson did "Debriefing," which is easily the best track. The music of the Cobra Unit and the Snake Eater theme were the only major songs NH did by himself.

Therefore, HGW > NH :D

battle in the base is my favorite Hibino track from Snake Eater. he's still a great composer. liked the ending music in zoe2, although it was pretty short
