DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMN, they took stop motion and made it look like medium quality CG! They may have gotten TOO GOOD, as the somewhat jerky nature of stop-motion is kind of the charm, versus they way this appears to be filmed. But I am 10000% down for stop-motion so will keep an eye out for this.
Curious if the end cost of this technology comes out on top of CG. Those puppets look EXPENSIVE but once you got it, everything else is probably fairly economical compared to CG, other than time. I'm guessing the ability to map out motions and camera movements, as well as digital imaging to review, make stop motion much more streamlined and predictable than it was in the old says. I feel like stop motion artists have a better grasp of weight and momentum than a lot of CG artists as well.
