Will 🚫 Nintendo ever release a Switch 2 Lite?

Would you want a Switch 2 Lite?

Another version of Switch 2 that does actually change something? Even when Nintendo has released a major version recently, it has mostly been bulky and makes it difficult for those travelling.

A lite version happened with the OG Switch; can lightning strike twice with the Switch 2?

"ask yourself what would Yamauchi do?"

"He would do the barest minimum for the most money."

"You have learnt well, Grasshopper."

Honestly even they do I skip it like I did with original Switch Lite.

The whole idea of Switch is I can switch between TV mode and portable mode and there are games I want to play on big TV with pro controller.

I wouldn't be surprised. A lot of people go in for a portable only setup. I know a few people with a Switch Lite who would buy a Switch 2 Lite. I don't want one unless it has a little bigger screen than Switch Lite.

It's basically a certainty. It may not be called the Switch 2 Lite, but they will definitely release a stripped down "budget" version of the console that parents can feel more comfortable about buying for their kids.

This is an important segment of Nintendo's market, and is going to be especially critical to keep sales strong during the middle of the system's life.

Yes. November 2027, $350.
To beat Sony when the PS6P, released at the same time, retails at $400.

they should simply sell a Switch 2 without a dock, just with a charging cable included.

make it 80€ cheaper, sell separate docks for 100€.
essentially the way the PS5 Slim Digital works

Absolutely.

They will want something more cost effective for the kids which is also smaller. They just need to move to a 6/5/4nm node.

Samsung's 8nm node is not really the best choice for a handheld when more energy efficient nodes were available, but Nintendo gonna cheap out.

Yeah nah. Nintendo isn't really into repeat business or money for that matter.

To answer your question in sincerity though, whilst no one here can vouch for Nintendo personally, given their track history of anything from Gameboy, DS, 3DS and Switch receiving some form of upgrade, refresh or lite version, it'd be a pretty good presupposition to expect one somewhere down the line.

The question is though, is the current form factor of switch 2 enough of a deterrent for you to not buy one? You mentioned travelling, is that something you do often or on occasion? If it's regular travel I'd be more concerned about the relatively short battery life than the size of the unit.

For me personally (cost aside), I'm waiting for Metroid Prime 4 to be released before I even consider making that investment.

Of course when have they ever not released an alternate handheld model?

What I want is a non-handheld version with a ssd slot.

Samsung 8 nm is the cost effective node. But yes it would draw a lot less.

Not sure, I'd hope not. I forget how the Lite did in Japan, but in today's market I see them releasing a dockless Switch 2 sku before a true Lite. Too much risk in manufacturing and the supply chain right now.

No, they need to a release a Switch 2 Home. A small console with switch 2 chipset that is tv only (no portable mode) and bundle with Switch 2 Pro controller. Perhaps able to hit higher clock speeds and high resolutions as a result as a result of better cooling.

Yes. I expect them to pretty much follow their Switch (1) SKU lineup.

Switch 2 Lite in 2027, Switch 2 OLED/Pro in 2029.

I'm not interested in a Lite version personally.

Would sell like hotcakes in JP. I say 99% chance it happens. 0% chance I buy one.

A TV-only SKU, however, that launched in a few years alongside the Lite with modest, say VCR Xbox One -> One S level hardware improvements?
Take my rupees.

100%.

There is more case for a Lite 2 than the original Lite. I mean, I am 6ft 3, and even for me the Switch 2 feels enormous. It's not something my god daughters could really manage.

With the black-only colour and overall design, Switch 2 feels like the pro / enthusiast product, for early adopters - the kids product will follow. I don't think they even need to gimp the TV out for differentiation this time - smaller will do.

Although as a dwarfish person with my puny 6′ 2.8″, I already thought the Switch 1 was a bit overly large. Haven't seen 2 in the wild, but on pics it looks enormous.

People have been raving about the increased size in joycons and the screen and I'm left scratching my head as neither is really what I desired. I would have preferred, at maximum, Switch 1 size, but with zero black area around the screen.

Enthusiast product is a good description of it and I'm not really sure I won't just go for the Lite version this time around, hopefully it'll have TV out though.
