I've mentioned this a few times but it seems like Nintendo has lost the sauce. Their games have been consistently disappointing since they launched the Switch 2 (to be honest since before then, after 2023 they've been pretty meh)

Every game they release since Bananza has been disappointing and scored low. Today's Mario Tennis reviews are not only sub-80, they're sub-70

Pokemon Legends ZA 78
Kirby Air Riders 79
Hyrule Warriors Age of Imprisonment 78
Metroid Prime 4 78
Mario Tennis Fever 67

This is allegedly the best developer on the planet, as much as their business decisions suck their games have always been great. That's the exchange with Nintendo, the excuse their fanboys give. But here we are with a multiple month long dry spell (honestly closer to 3 years but I'll be kind).

Do we think this finally changes this year? Will Nintendo finally have a game cross 80 on Metacritic this year? Say what you will about Sony but even when their lineup has been disappointing at least they've been able to deliver good games when they do come out. What the fuck is Nintendo doing
 
Been saying for a while now. With Iwata's departure and fuck knows what Miyamoto is doing, they have no decent leadership left.

It's all monkey decisions by money men going forward.

Fire Emblem will 100% be mid-high 80s.

They will likely have a Christmas game that at least has a chance at being 90+. Bananza released last year and scored higher than anything Sony made that year so it's an odd thing to bring up.

I'll go for 90+.

But I think you might want to tweak your question because Nintendo also released Switch 2 editions of BotW, TotK and Kirby which all reviewed above 80, even in the 90+ range.

I expect Super Mario Bros.: Wonder to do the same when it releases just next month.

As someone who bought a Switch 2 at launch for $500 for nothing other than the promise of Nintendo games, fuck yeah I'll call their shit out. They put out their most expensive system yet and so far they've supported it with garbage. I don't have to take that without complaints lol

Trying to push this narrative while intentionally ignoring Mario Kart (86) and asking us to only focus on games after Bananza (91) is certainly a choice when those are all spinoffs and reboots of niche games.

They will be fine, Fire Emblem looks solid and by the look of the leaks even Pokémon might get good reviews with its 10th generation.

I mean buying a console at launch is an investment in the future, always has been. You should probably wait if you're wanting to have several games to play immediately.

Bananza was one of the best games last year and probably the best Nintendo game since TOTK, MKW has been extremely successful even if it's not a game/series that I particularly care for. It hasn't come out of the gates with the same pace as the Switch, but Switch also benefited from Wii Us failure.

If we get through this year without a few more great games I'll be disappointed, but between Fire Emblem, their holiday game, and a couple other potential things (Monolith's game as an example) I'm sure we'll end up with a decent lineup.

Crazy that Air Riders got 1 point above MP4; for me that's a 9/10 and a 5/10, and based on actual response online of people who've played the games, I don't think I'm an outlier.

Sure I can. But there's a handful here that can't keep Nintendo negativity out of their mouth. It's not like I go into every Sony thread and stir shit up, or make retarded threads like this one. Nintendo is far from perfect, and at the end of the day, they're a business like most others that take advantage of its customers.

You're not exactly innocent when it comes shitposting on other threads and this thread is not even that. I don't think the OP is right on all counts, but there's certainly something to be discussed about disappointing Nintendo releases. What I find fascinating whenever I see your posts is you're usually not even doing any arguing, just immediately deflecting to some conspiracy against Nintendo. This seems to be your default setting towards criticism.

Even Engage, which most people were pretty lukewarm on (though personally I liked it way more than Three Houses), has an 80 metascore.

The only massive game we know about is Pokémon gen 10.

Judging by recent Pokémon games, there is a chance that it'll be a critical dud, but still sell tens of millions.

However, GF have spent an extra year of development time on this game, which might pay off. Gen 9 clealry needed more time in the oven.

I'm going to say Gen 10 will be a return to form and the best mainline game since B2&W2.

90% score.

I've been seeing the leaked early build of it being compared to Scarlet/Violet though and if that's any indication it should be decent step up.

With the extra dev time, it should be a step up, but GF do like to cut corners wherever possible.

Reveal will be on the 27th of this month, as well as whatever else they have in store.
 
Isn't just about all the old school guys leaving/retiring now? I heard Eiji Nomura is. I wonder what the outlook for gaming will be once ALL of the titans are finally gone.

When it comes to Miyamoto, honestly I am glad he is off dealing with movies and theme parks. The less hands on he is the less we have to deal with blowing mechanics and double screen Star Fox. Love the man to pieces and what he's accomplished but in the later years there were certain design decisions he insisted on that did not jell with fans. I remember an interview sometime after Sunshine or Galaxy, he discussed how his team often wanted to do more over the top story beats and cut scenes within Mario games. He wasn't about that at all, just didn't allow it. Odyssey, Breath, Tears and Bananza have a lot of elements that I interpret as moving away from some of Minamoto's old school style of thinking.

I say this while actually enjoying the DK blow mechanic and adoring Star Fox Zero. However I understand in both cases how most players felt like they had to fight their controls or pacing of the game. I also usually role my eyes during video game cut scenes as I just want to play and fell the game. However, I have been appreciating the tiny cinematic push their tentpole adventures have gotten this last generation.

Had to check this.

Fuck me. In the UK that game is £58.99 on the Eshop. For physical they want £67! For fucking Mario Tennis! Remember when Nintendo was the cheaper, family friendly option? These prices are why my sister won't upgrade my nephew to a Switch 2. The games are unaffordable for her.

As Nintendo are committed to variable pricing, I can guarantee we're going to see some Nintendo games hit tripple figures.

If we somehow getting new 3d mario or monolith soft rpg not only 80 but 90metacritic is very likely.
