Will the Virtual Console be compatible with handhelds?

I know its very possible and easy to support the GB->GBA lineup, but has there been any word if Nintendo plans on supporting their pre-DS handhelds on the NVC?

I'd like to think Nintendo is smart enough to have the next GameBoy (or next DS?) to have some kind of internal memory to play GBC and old GB games you buy and transfer to the handheld. Heck, let me download some old NES and SNES games onto the sucker also.

Seems like a smart thing to do, which is why I wouldn't expect Nintendo to do it.

Smart like the kids on the short bus you mean. Nintendo is in the business to make money, so why cannibalize retro handheld game sales of $15-$20 a pop for $3 downloads? That makes about as much sense as Paris Hilton on her best day.

Definately. I don't think Nintendo will put in an emulator for the GBC/GB/GBA in the Revolution, but the next Gameboy should have those chips in the hardware.

Considering the next GB will hook up to NWC, making GB roms available for the next GB seems reasonable.

It would be a pretty good idea. It would give people a reason to get both a Rev. and DS. But you never know. I mean, I'm sure Nintendo tried to push GBA connectivity because they assumed people who bought a gba would also get a GC. *shrug*

What exactly is the Virtual Console? A collection of emulators?

I 'm pretty sure that according to the leaked specs they are actually imbedding the NES, SNES amd N64 chipsets into the Revolution board.

I strongly doubt that, it would be a waste of money. The revolution can easily emulate the older consoles. And yes, VC is basically a bunch of emus.

I think you are correct. I can't remember where I saw the imbedded chipset information, but it doesn't make much sense.

I know there was a rumor floating around before the specs so maybe that's what you're thinking of?

The one thing I'm not sure of is how backward compatibility with the GC is handled. Since the Rev is essentially using souped up versions of the GCN CPU/GPU, I would think that they could allow for backward compatibility without needing extra chips.

To loop the loop, I'm pretty sure the next Gameboy games will be stored on GC mini discs so that we can play them on Revolution :D

From my understanding, you will be able to download games onto your Rev, and then transfer some of them to the DS for play on the go.

I might have pulled this out of my ass, so be aware. I do remember reading it somehwre though.

Nintendo hasn't announced anything like that... it would be pretty cool, though.

I'd like to see them emulate old GB games, wouldn't mind playing through Final Fantasy Adventure for like the 21st time... I loved oldskool GB - Gargoyle's Quest, Hyper Lode Runner, Tetris, FFL 1 and 2, Link's Awakening, Operation C, Balloon Kid, and lesser known games that I'm curious about trying like Great Greed and Bubble Ghost.

This is Nintendo. The company who originally released the NES Classics GBA carts for $20. I wouldn't put it past them to charge $15-$30 for a game on the service.
