Will there be a normal controller for the Revolution?

psycho_snake

I went to WAGs boutique and all I got was a sniff
I really like what Nintendo have done with the Revolution controller. Ninetdo might not sell as much as their competitors with the decision they have gone with, but its great to see Nintendo trying something different. There is a lot of potential with the ccontroller, so many things could be done, but at the same time, I would really like to see Nintendo make a normal controller for the revolution too.

I can't see why Nintendo won't do it because they have nothing to lose. By doing so people who are looking for a new experince will by the console but they will also attract gamers who do not feel like they want to play with and and would rather play with a normal controller.

Ive not actually heard anything about it, but has there been any info regarding a normal pad being made for the revolution?

Yes there is. You plug the remote thingy into it.

Rendition of what it should look like.

Yes. There will be a normal controller shell that the revolution "remote" will plug into giving the best of both worlds.

This has been known since the remote was first shown!

yes. it's a shell that the revcontroller plugs into. wavebird esque apparently but it will have movement sensing. people have avatars of the mockup ign made.

Uhm, well there was a conventional controller shell announced but never shown (IGN has some nice mock-ups, a pic which got shown in every thread at one point :lol ).

Edit: The above pic, it is.

And offcourse, GameCube controllers also work.

The thing is, if they go with a normal controller + a revmote, most of the games made for the Revolution won't have the revmote in mind like Nintendo wants. So thinking about this more, I believe that even though they will have that controller adapter to connect to the Revmote, not too many games will use it (especially if they are made specifically for the system). The nunchuk+ revmote sounds like the controller nintendo is trying to use.

That actually looks really nice, but thats just a mock up. The remote doesnt have any use when its in the controller apart from the start, select and home buttons right?

Actually, it could still use the 3D sensor capabilities, so then you'd have those in addition to all the extra buttons and joysticks. Or the game could ignore those features and just use the shell like a normal WaveBird-esque controller.

Yes, it's a mock up made by IGN, as some people clearly state. But the fact remains that something like that will be available for the system.

I think this whole "controller shell" idea is just stupid and its going to confuse the consumer even more. There are WAY too many possible controller permutations:

remote only
remote turned sideways
remote + analog stick add-on
remote in controller shell
gamecube controller

not to mention we will probably see:

remote + a custom 3rd party add-on
remote in custom 3rd party shell

they should definitely push for the nunchuck config being standard for all games at least

Far from it, I think the standard way of controlling rev games will .... eventually ... be the normal controller with a few stand out games or genres using the revmote+nunchuck.

I'd consider that a colossal failure for Nintendo.

Well it would be in a way ...

... but look at the of the success of the DS. One of the reasons why it is successful is because of the combination of standard games with touchscreen "features" and some (only a handful) all out touchscreen games.

And this combination will, I think, be the best scenario for Nintendo and the RevMote.

Attaching to the Rev controller will, presumably, make it much cheaper than being seperate too as the wifi stuff won't need to be built in.

A lot of games won't need it anyway if you haven't bought it, the nunchuck thing will allow most ports, as we demonstrated waaaaay back when the controller was first shown by mapping Halo 2 to it.

i thought this was just an IGN mock-up....is this the final design????

I said it was a rendition of what it should look like.

I didn't say that it was final. I have no idea what it actually looks like.

Join the club. :p

I'd figure almost no one knows anything about it, it could well be that the design isn't even finalised. There will be a classic style controller available for the remote to plug into, that has been confirmed ever since E3, but we will have to wait until Nintendo decides to show it off.

Which could still be a while away. Are Nintendo doing any events or press cnferences soon? That would be the most likely time that they will release any information regarding revolution.

nunchuck config comes with the system + standard controller shell is an extra peripheral + peripherals usually have around 10% (and that's good for a peripheral) sell-through to system owners = that won't be happening

For an individual, they may choose to use the standard controller shell, but for the general public who buy the system, they'll just use what comes in the box (nunchucku configuration).

If you want the exact same thing as last gen you can just plug a Wavebird in.
Thats a good thing. The mock up Revmote controller looks the same as the wavebird, but I have no problem with that because the wavebird is great :D
