I hate to post about something so stupid, and I know it must be easy, but for the life of me, I cannot figure this out.

Does anyone know how to tweak Win XP Pro SP2's setting such that every freaking folder I open up displays the same? Ideally, I'd like all folders to open up with a Details view. As it stands now, sometimes it's List, sometimes it's Icons, etc. Sucks.

Thanks.

set up your desired view in one folder then go to (in that explorer window)

tools->folder options->view->apply to all folders

keep in mind that all folders will still keep their unique meta-data after this, so if you want to keep uniformity you'll have to keep doing the apply to all process after you mess with individge settings or just refrain yourself from messing with individge settings

it's a terrible UI, but eh what're you gonna do

I think he is saying that in the DETAILS view, you can select which columns should be displayed. For example, if the folder has MP3's, you can elect to show the bitrate as a column, etc.

But yes, his suggested technique which change all folders to detail view as long as the current folder is in that mode.

no matter what you do, each folder will individually remember all settings changes. so if you want all your folders to look the same you need to set all the folder settings once and then not touch any of them or set them all everytime you change a folder setting.
