Ugh. First off, I hate how this is even news. But then, so many parts of this article piss me off.

"It's a huge reality check, there's a whole other world going on out there. ... When your life intersects with others in this way, it is forever changed," Winfrey said outside the Cook County Criminal Courts Building, flanked by other jurors.
Normal people do this everyday to no fanfare. Rich woman does it and suddenly it's supposed to be this noble, sympathetic endeavor and story of the week. Ugh.

Winfrey, who was paid $17.20 a day for her civic duty, said she plans to do a show about the trial next week with other jurors.
No shit? Oprah capitalizing on this? Was this really a reality check or an excuse for a ratings boost? All publicity is good publicity after all...

Van Kampen said all the hoopla had no effect on the trial. Juror Suzanne Goodman of Arlington Heights agreed.

"It was a lot of fun, it was like being on her show," said Goodman, who plans to appear on Winfrey's show.
Wait, what!? No effect on the trial, and yet one of the jurors said it was "a lot of fun" and "was like being on [Oprah's] show"? Yeah, clearly this was just another normal case. Sounds like the other idiots on the jury were just ogling a celebrity and relishing the inevitable invitation to appear on her show. Yuck.
