WipE'out" Pure update. :eek

Wipeout is BACK!!

http://www.gamespot.com/psp/driving/wipeout/media.html

Graphics look stunning, music and sound FXs sound superb, the style is very 2097ish which I love.
Videos are of the vector mode (slowest class).

CoLD SToRAGE IS back - Confirmed.
Aphex Twin has one or more tracks in the game.
and i'm not sure... but i think i saw a TIESTO banner in the developer interview video.

Wipeout - GOTY '95
Wipeout XL - GOTY '96
Wipeout 3 - GOTY ' 99
Wipeout Pure - GOTY 2005
:rock

Seems they're doing all the right things for this version. Maybe they want me to forgive them for Fusion!

a shatteringly great ridge racer followed by what looks to be a shatteringly great wipeout (have i mentioned how much i like the title's explicit rebuke of wipeout fusion?). it's like 1995 all over again, only more portable. can't wait for this game. and i can't wait for its soundtrack.

and who is this person with the spastic hands in all the gamespot videos? can't someone make him stop?

?

Don't forget Twisted Metal. :) It does look alot like how the PSone began. They just need Warhawk now.

Sweet lord.. That looks so excellent that I lack words. :D

Im glad the framerate is stable now.
Thanks for posting this.

Oh yes the frame rate has improved greatly! Is this running on 30 or 60 fps? Anyone know?

Oh man the snow track and cloud city map look really cool!

Sometimes....
Just sometimes....
I wish Nintendo would drop the DS and have their franchises show up on the PSP.
F-Zero GX would look wonderful on that machine.

Tiesto songs??? SOLD! Wonder if it's gonna be an exclusive track (kind of like what Sasha did with Wipeout 3) or it'll be one of his older ones. I've been dying to play this since the first screen trickled out... too bad I haven't reserved my PSP :P Time to sneak out of work and head to Best Buy March 24...

Initially, I wasn't too impressed by this, but the latest media shows the game to have taken a good many steps beyond its prior state. Looks and sounds absolutely amazing. Dare I say it's more impressive than RR?

Those new GS videos look fantastic! This really could be one of the best system launches ever. New Wipeout, Ridge Racer, and Twisted Metal games along with tons of other great looking titles (Lumines, Mercury, MGA, etc.)

Can't wait!

You know, I was going to completely pass on the whole PSP craze because portable gaming never really interested me. Hearing the rumors of a 50gb revision of the PSP being worked on for next year made the decision easier.

But... I fucking LOVE the Wipeout series (even Fusion I enjoyed immensely). I fear I might be too late in preordering one. I can't believe i'm buying a PSP because of this. Just picturing myself kicked back on my couch playing this on that sweet screen with some nice headphones, is too much.

In one thread I went from no PSP, to:

PSP
Lumines
RR
Wipeout: Pure

It looks wonderful on the Cube, and it will no doubt look wonderful on Nintendo's next generation handheld. (whatever/whenever that is)

Next gen handheld? Which pillar are they up to? The 11th? I've lost track... :D

I hope this is the case because although the videos are impressive, it seems the sense of speed isn't there. Hopefully this is just a case of these being the slower classes and as you progress it increases (ala RR).

Yeah, like all other Wipeouts, Pure starts you off real slow and by the time you get to Phantom class, it's fucking uncontrollably insane.

Played the shit out of this game yesterday and I concur with all positive impressions. This game is the Wipeout you've been waiting for.

Joy!

Now tell us about the differences between the domestic and import versions of Lumines or I'll cut you.

P.S. WipeOut + Twisted Metal + Lumines = AWESOME

OH HO HO HO HO
*rubs hands in glee*

I really hate to have so many good racing games and not a decent platfformer yet but well...It's one of my favourite genres so BRING IT ON !

chespace... any word on controls with that nub? And is the presentation for track selection at least better than that POS Wipeout on the PS2?

Now I have big pants for this game. <fap><fap><fap>

OK, here's my deal.

I'm not the biggest racing fan in the world. I enjoy Gran Turismo, and that's about it (almost more because it teaches me about the car lifestyle then the fact that I enjoy the racing, sans some fun rally).

I really want to pick up either Ridge Racers (never played one for more then a few minutes) or Wipeout Pure (have played a few Wipeouts only long enough to realize that I am pretty bad at them) for a little racing on the go.

Which would everyone recommend for someone like me?

My definite purchase is Lumines, and possible Twisted Metal and Dark Stalkers.

RR is a very good title and it's polished, but Wipeout looks likes it's on par. Chances are TM and Lumines are going to eat up most of your time, so wait for the North American reviews (which should come out a few days before launch) and make your decision then.

i'm torn between RR & Wipeout as well. I was thinking of getthing both, but then they are both racing games...

There are enough significant differences between the two -- combat vs. pure racing, setting -- to reconcile the purchase of both.
