Wipeout Special Edition

I loved the PS1 Wipeout series. I heard about W:SE and that it was basically a compilation of all 3 games. I also heard that it never came to US shores, only Europe.

Does anyone know if it's any good? Does anybody know where I can track down a copy of this game?

It wasn't really a compilation. It was as the name suggests, a special edition of the third game. There were tracks from the first two games in there tho.

It's really cool to see your old favorite tracks with new graphics...and to play those tracks with the weapons and ships of WO3. Too bad they didn't replace the soundtrack from WO3 though. Oh, and all the tracks from WO3 are included too...but I never even touched those in Special Edition. It's all about Odessa Keys!! :D

According to the back of my Wipeout 3 Special Edition(I was sent mistakenly), it says on the back:

FEATURES TRACKS FROM WIPEOUT, WIPEOUT 2097, WIPEOUT 3 JAPANESE VERSION AND SPECIAL PROTOTYPE TRACKS

Kiriku and Defensor, was it fun playing the old tracks in WO3 engine?

And what's different about the Japanese version?

I had a lot of fun with it back then, at least. The transition of old tracks to WO3 wasn't technically perfect IIRC (the game seemed to move faster than the tracks could handle at times, and had a lot of slowdown at a couple of spots), but that's a minor complaint. It's cool to see all those old tracks remade (the tracks from the first Wipeout are very improved obviously).

And yes, I would like to know about the differences in the Japanese version too. Never heard of that myself, but I cannot imagine the differences being very big anyway. And the Special Edition comes with almost the exact same manual as WO3, but it's black and white instead of color. :(

I wonder why they never released Fusion in Japan - all three PS games got released here.
I'm not sure about the wip3out differences. I played the PAL version to death, but I never really played the Japanese version after I bought it. It's difficult to go back to PS graphics these days, though.
