My friend introduced me to this band recently. He says they were the influence for Nirvana and other grunge era bands. I like them a lot so far. Their songs aren't anything revolutionary, but well written and catchy. Anyone else like them too?

The Melvins will melt your face off. Sludgy, dark music with a pretty decent sense of humor. Everyone starts with Houdini, so I'd say start with Houdini. Their stuff is all over the map, but I assure you it's all connected to being sludgy and dark. I forget which album Kurt Cobain produced, but I think this is the one. They really sound nothing like Nirvana.

They're the greatest live band I've ever seen, yet I have no desire to listen to their albums ever. I don't really like heavy stuff honestly, but I can't deny the greatness and the intensity of their live performance. I have my friend to thank for dragging me along.

The Melvins are playing two sets on their current tour, one alone and one with Jello Biafra. Good stuff.

Go buy The Wipers box set, it's only $17.00 through Greg Sage!

The whole thing is a must own. $17.00! The other plus is it actually benefits Sage who definitely didn't earn the cash he should have when the records came out the first time around. Great band.

Yeah, that's a good deal, wow.

How was that Nirvana set that was released about a year ago? I skipped it at the time.

Pretty good actually. I have almost everything from Nirvana that I could get my hands on but the 3 disc compo still had some songs that I didn't.
