Wireless cassette walkman!? (v.old)

We were watching an ipod ad, and my wife was complainingn about the wires. I laughed it off saying thats just like all walkmen, but she said she had a wireless one back in '91/'92.

I didn't believe her at all - I'm a tech geek and she's practically Victorian :)

Still, she wouldn't let it slide, so we went on the net, and found this little beauty:

Wireless headphones with a remote control you clip to your pocket. The actual walkman sits in your bag.

I've never seen anything like this in the UK. Were they ever released outside of Japan? Anyone on here had one?

And how come nobody does it anymore? It seems like a fantastic idea.

I would imagine the audio quality's not so hot, and modern flash MP3 players are so small that's it's really becoming a moot point. If they could make a set of wireless headphones that managed to A) be small, B) have great battery life, and C) sound as good as a decent pair of wired 'phones, I'd be all over it like acne on ass.
