I just installed a new wireless router, linksys E1500, and when i ran the setup on my computer, it automatically set up an unsecured "guest" connection along with my secured connection. I live in an apartment building, would this be a security threat? Can/should I get rid of it?

It isn't a threat in terms of people actually accessing the content on your computers ... it's a separate network (assuming you're connecting your devices to the other network). It's meant as a convenience for guests.
Is it a threat in terms of people using bandwidth? Well sure, if you don't protect it. You should be able to setup most or all of the protections your main network has. If you don't think you'll need it though, turn it off.
Assuming the router is easy to configure, you could always just turn it on as needed. It would be smart if router companies put a dedicated button on it for turning the feature on and off. Not sure if any offer this, but it would be cool to have.
