I have treid to find a video player for my mac that can play WMV and AVI files and I have been unsuccessful. I have tried to download DivX fir MAC but when I install it, it isnt working properly. If you all have a suggestion or an alternate player for the MACs with these files and other video file formats that cant be played by quicktime, it would great if you can send that info this way! Thanks!

Use Classic Quicktime (Quicktime 5 for OS 9) and get DivX (and indeo) for AVIs. I don't think they've made a proper DivX/Indeo plugin yet for OS X.

Yeah, VLC is the shit, it won't play some things though.

You can use the Windows Media Player for the .wmvs

For .avis I usually take mplayer or vlc.

VLC is great. The only thing it won't play is WMV3 encoded files. Only the OS X version of Windows Media Player will play them. Also, WMV3 is like the shittiest codec ever.
