Woah, The Brothers Grimm.

I've seen two commercials today, and I was surprised to find out it's coming out at the end of the month. Gilliam is great, but the lack of hype coupled with the release date have me a little worried.

The trailer is very un-Gilliam too. It felt strangely like Van Helsing to me.

I am still holding out hope for this though!

I doubt it's going to have too many Gilliam-esque moments - the trailer was pretty standard, too - but it's all sort of up in the air right now. I just can't believe it's coming out in less than a month.

The studio messed with it during production so much there have been stories posted on many sites that Gilliam doesn't want his name on the poster.

Basically the movie was originally being funded by MGM. Then MGM pulled out all the money and at the last minute the Weinstiens came in and thats when it started to go bad for Gilliam. Bob Weinstein personally fired Gilliam's cinematographer Nicola Pecorini, and then when Gilliam and Matt Damon both wanted to cast Samantha Morton as the female lead both Weinsteins ended that plan.

Someone really needs to release a documentary movie about the making of this like he did with Lost in LaMancha, but the Weinsteins will probably never let it happen. Hell, it got so bad Gilliam stormed off the set in the middle of filming and went and filmed Tideland while putting Grimm on hold for six months.

End of August = studio dumping ground.

WTF they are fake ghostbusters. And then they have to fight fairytale monsters. Man just stick in Anne Hathaway and make it Ella Enchanted 3.

What the hell is Ella Enchanted and what's it have to do with The Brothers Grimm

Ella Enchanted is a G rated comedy in the same setting as TBG. Ella is played by former Disney princess Anne Hathaway. The new Anne Hathaway likes to do nude gangbang scenes and she always had a nice rack and liked to show it off *cough* School of Rock premiere *cough*

this is so fucked up. this BRILLIANT director cant catch a fucking break sometimes.

its pretty sad how someone with so much talent can get so dicked around by the fuckers holding the purse strings.

Lost in LaMancha was a great documentary, sad though.

Although the studio fucked with Grimm, the claim that Gilliam wants his name off it is completely false. He's actually promoting the movie, saying that people seem to like it. Plus he got final cut after a lot of bickering with the Weinsteins.

It got a good review in Time magazine, too.

I still have my worries, don't get me wrong.

I had trouble believing that as well. It seemed like a project he had quite a bit of desire to complete.

The rumors of the "OMG Masturbation full frontal" scenes have been debunked.

The only nudity in the movie is topless... no full frontal, no masturbation with a dildo as was rumored, and the movie has an 'R' rating; not the NR or 17 rating that was thrown around for a while.

Why are we talking about Havoc in a Gilliam thread?

Not true. Tideland didn't even begin filming until last fall, and there were test screenings of the Brothers Grimm as early as May 2004. After all, the film was originally scheduled for last November.

As for the other stuff, though... yeah, the Weinsteins are dicks. But Gilliam isn't disowning the movie.

Yeah, how would you have guessed from seeing "FROM ACCLAIMED DIRECTOR TERRY GILLIAM" in big letters on screen. [/smartass]

Let's go see the movie together, assuming you have turned 18. After all, I'm not M.J. No, no now.

AFAIK, there's been a premiere in Germany since it was co-produced by a German company, VIP Medienfonds. There's still no solid date for a stateside release.

I love how this movie's claim to fame is as the "nekkid Princess Diary chick" movie.

apparently i didnt see that. interesting how that works huh?

if it makes your brain hurt, just stop thinking about it.

i like the part in the trailer where Heath Ledger goes "ITS REAL" with this really goofy look on his face. I might see the movie just for that.

:lol I wouldn't waste my money to see it, even if it's Gilliam. Looks like Van Helsing 2....and that's not a good thing in any sense, shape, or form. Damn shame too, I was looking forward to Grimm.

~40% - ish on Rottentomatoes. Same as his "Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas", which I for the life of me could never understand, how it scored so low. I absolutely loved FALILA...

Just saw it. The second half is a bit better than the first. There are definitely some Gilliam-style moments that completely freaked out some of the parents who brought their kids expecting a cute and safe fairy tale movie.

Only Gilliam can take a cute fluffy white kitten,
dice it to bits
, and make it hilarious. :lol
