Woot has a 50inch 4K TV on sale for $350

It's from HiSense. If you want a tv from a more name-brand company they got a Vizio 50inch for $449. I'm thinking about buying one of these because my current tv is a 32inch 720p set. Can't imagine prices would get better than this either.
 
Hi-Sense TVs are not good for gaming, lot of input lag. They have a good panel though and picture quality is great.

That's a real bad experience.

Sometimes no-name TVs can be great. Sometimes big-brand TV's are absolute shit.

Just look at some of the last Panasonic plasmas with 75ms input lag, for an example.

Lots of gaffers bought those, even 2/5 of Giantbomb (at the time) bought them "because Panasonic".

Did... you just call the latest Panasonic TV's shit?

They have just about the best picture quality out there, outside of some OLED TV's. I believe the input lag is also a bit lower with the higher-end series because of a different processor.

That you put that much value in input lag, sure. But that is not the case for everybody and matters very little when watching TV or movies, when they are superb TV's.

Which doesn't mean that big-brand TV's can't be shit. but at least you have an easy way to check it with reviews or know what to expect. No-name TVs are a big risk.

Nonetheless it is indeed a lot lower on the higher-end TVs in the last Panasonic plasma TVs. Hailing it as an example for a bad idea is very silly, because people have been very aware of it and not ignoring it because it is Panasonic.
 
What am I supposed to look for in a tv? How bad does input lag need to be to consider the tv crap for a shooter I dont play to competitively but still want to kick ass?

Hehe I kinda figured you'd have one of those TV's. Typically when someone pays $1500 on something they become very defensive.

I'm happy you don't mind the input lag so all the power to ya.
 
I just want to say that Woot has the worst customer service I've ever dealt with. It's like the opposite of Amazon (which I'm told owns Woot). They told me to refuse a package since I couldn't cancel my order, told me they never got it and they couldn't do anything even though UPS tracking showed they received and signed for the package, and just didn't refund my money. So I had to do a credit card charge back.

I wish we had deals like this in Canada. My current LCD TV is doing a lot of ghosting and making weird noises, plus I sometimes have to reset it to get the sound to work through HDMI.

It'd be nice to upgrade to a cheap 4K TV for now, then save most of my budget for when the better ones become affordable ($1000 CAD or so).

VT60 in game mode is sub 30ms.

I'll never understand why people will spend thousands of dollars on consoles, games, headphones, subscriptions, controllers, etc but then use a cheap, crummy, no name TV. The quality of your TV is intimately linked to your gaming experience.

A new ST60 was about half that for me, but okay. It's not that I get defensive about my purchase, it is that naming the Panasonic plasma series as absolute shit is completely absurd. Partly because most of the series don't even feature the complaint of you, and partly because it has been one negative factor that is very well-known which weighs against some very good factors.

It's because of the smartTV features and the processor doesn't handle it well. Sadly there is no possibility to turn some features off.
 
Hisense is a Chinese company that's making waves. They recently bought Sharp. Also, because they are based in China, they have much lower production costs and can sell their TVs for cheap.

I hear they are pretty good televisions but have bad input lag. rtings.com is also a good website to find input lag
 
Everytime I think about getting a 4ktv, I decide not to after thinking for a while.

Don't have anything 4k to view on it yet, and when I look at the price, I think it'd be better to save that and put that towards a 4k projector, when prices come down next year, as that's where I'll see the most advantage.
 
I don't own a TV (never have), but I think I might be ready if there are good 4k deals maybe for black friday (if a good 50"-60" goes under $500 I'll prolly bite). I'd be using it for games though, so I don't think I can spring on the one in the OP.
 
The Vizio 50-C1 is the set i've had since last november. Had to replace one unit already because of backlight clouding and the ethernet stopped working. The set that replaced it has the same backlight clouding issue that popped up after a few weeks of use. Picture quality is great but the panel issues are a problem. Probably just gonna ride this one out until I can drop some coin on a 4K HDR Sony set that I know will last more than a year without giving me problems.

Hisense is actually a really popular brand name here in South Africa. Picture quality generally looks really good judging from the display models, but it really depends on the model. I've seen some of their low-budget 4k displays looking really bad.
 
I have a hisense tablet. They are Walmart's house brand for android tablets. decent quality for low low price.


if you would like to buy one..I know a guy.
 
Lol Hisense TVs are the ones we push to customers who are being jerks at the store. It's a kind of revenge. I wouldn't buy it if you are picky about quality or about how long it will last.
