I think the graphics could be better, but then again who plays worms for the graphics?

The demo is loads of fun, highly recommended for worms fans.

When does this come out in America? We European gamers are waiting for the American flood, the servers are quiet as hell atm.

EBGames.com says my local stores have their $20 Xbox copies in-stock.

I just hope the Xbox version allows inverted controls this time.

A friend forwarded this post from a Team 17 member at the T17 forums:

To put things straight for you. The reason the PS2 version is not being released in the US is because Sony America rejected the game at concept approval. They stated that it was not different enough from Worms 3D both in terms of gameplay and in graphical capabilities. So Team17 and Majesco had no option really.

Said friend then pointed out that by this argument we wouldn't get 'new' sports titles from EA each year.

NO MORE 3D!!!

Worms hit its pinnacle with Worms Armageddon and it's been downhill since then.
The DS called, it wants you to pay attention to it.

Yes, 2D is best for Worms, but that aint gonna happen on consoles anymore. Worms 4 is an awesome game, but it doesn't replace the 2D games. It's kinda like a different yet great game, unlike 3D which is pants.

I give up on Team 17.

The new Xbox version of Mayhem fixes a major control shortcoming of Worms 3D. You can invert the y-axis for first-person, third-person, or both views.

Except the first-person inversion doesn't carry over to Xbox Live.

Way to go. Does anybody beta test any more?

The saga continues. Team17 has contempt for their customers, and they ship buggy product (while blaming Majesco and Microsoft as much as possible).

Last year's Worms 3D didn't have invertable analog controls. It was an irritation, and an oversight.

Team17 announced in their forum that this was being addressed in Worms 4 Mayhem.

And sure enough, it was. You can control the first-person Y-axis, the third person Y-axis, and the third person X-axis. And the game plays and controls like a dream.

Until you get on Live and try to play online. You get a non-inverted Y-axis in first-person, an inverted Y-axis in third person, and an inverted X-axis in third person, regardless of how you configured the game. It really sucks to go and play online and the view is constantly going off in strange directions that almost everybody finds non-intuitive due to the very strange control choices. It makes the game control differently than how most people will play in single player, and makes it extremely difficult for people who are always used to targeting with an inverted Y-axis when shooting and sniping in other games. This is not what we were promised. Other bugs have been noted in online play, as well.

So what do the Team17 staff do? They eventually acknowledge the problem, they admit that all Live games are patchable, and they say that they aren't going to fix it.

And they, along with their volunteer moderators, belittle anybody in the forum who complains or asks for resolution.

Would the publishers of this game (Codemasters and Majesco) treat their customers with such disdain?

"Okay, so it's a bug. But oh! the histrionics!"

"As for patching, it's not going to happen."

"In fairness, you are being melodramatic."

"Stick on another five seconds of turn time and get over it."

"OK, here goes. We are sorry that this game went out with this bug in it. We are sorry that nobody when testing the game found this bug, either at Majesco or at Microsoft and we are sorry that we will not be patching the game."
(snarky, tough-luck apology after getting some grief).

Color me very disappointed.

Damn, that's incredibly lame. Now I have reservations about the PSP game.
