Worst song covers of all time?

My votes:
Marilyn Manson - Sweet Dreams Are Made of This
Celine Dion & Anastasia: You Shook Me All Night Long (kinda disappointing, really. It sounds so bad it's good, but instead it's just bad, like every other Celine Dion song).
New Found Glory - NeverEnding Story
Korn - Another Brick in the Wall
Atreyu - You Give Love a Bad Name (hands down, the worst I've ever heard - and a Google search reveals there are actually people who think it's good).

I will never understand the appeal of the variety of metal in which the lead "singer" just atonally growls the lyrics.

Every cover of a Jacques Brel song, including the ones translated into english (yes, Amsterdam with David Bowie too).

The one I hate the most is:

Sweet Box - Bohemian Rhapsody

All Saints - Under The Bridge

Some good answers, sure. But it's no use trying to have THE right answer. THE mother of all deadly covers. The one that puts tears in your eyes without you realizing it.

There's no turning back after you've heard the Scissor Sisters version of Comfortably Numb. I will now forever win at these threads.

But, but when I first heard that RnB cover of the most popular song of all time, and one of the most ahead of it times too, I really wondered if it was just life, or just a fantasy. Turns out it was a nightmare. :(

It says covers, not cover.

Anyway, my vote goes to The Dixie Chicks - Landslide. It's not as bad as a lot of the previously mentioned ones, but it's still pretty terrible to my ears.

Zwan - Number of the Beast
A weaksauce, uninspired soft rock band covering Iron Maiden. Whatever dude. Is this even real? It's so bad it sounds like it's a fake, not even Zwan.

Goo Goo Dolls - Give a little bit of my love to you, or whatever the title of that song is
The final vibrating dildo in the coffin for this once awesome punk/rock band. I'm not dissing the original either, they managed to pussify a pretty good song.

Limp Bizkit - Faith
A wigger spazzing out and screaming while covering an 80s song.

Possibly the worst song ever...and definately the worst cover song has to be

Britney Spears- Satisfaction

The best cover song, suprisingly is a Beatles song. Joe Cocker- I want a little help from my friends.

~sings to himself : Lenny Kravitz - American Woman~ Actually not that bad though.

Remakes/song covers/etc. are such a touchy subject for people. If you change it too much, people will bitch. If you keep it nearly the same, people will bitch. I personally not to try to compare it too much to the original because of the inherent bias that's there because I've heard the original so many times before that anything new seems bad. When in truth, it's not, though. Just different. I'm one of those people who think all art is equal. Ah well..

I love Pink Floyd, and love Comfortably Numb. And I think there should be a rule that no band should ever be able to cover Pink Floyd, because it never turns out well.

But I have nothing against this song.

Dream Theater has a good cover. :)

Smegging smeg of a smeg!
Some of my least favorites:

A Perfect Circle - Anything from their covers album. I like the band, but man that album sucks hard. Sorry.

Peter Murphy - Final Solution. This would be a decent cover if it didn't completely ruin the feeling of the original, which nobody heard and when they did thought it sucked that this band covered Peter Murphy. Bah.

Warsaw - Isolation. A Joy Division cover from a band I'd never heard of before I saw this video many years ago. Terrible, terrible.

Mighty Mighty Bosstones - Rudie Can't Fail. I'm friends with some of them and I still detest this cover. Bad Bosstones! Bad!

Korn - Word Up. Yeesh.

Guns n Roses - Knocking On Heaven's Door. I'm not in love with the original, but this version is shit.

U2 - Helter Skelter. "We're stealing it back"? Fuck off and leave it alone Bono.

I love it... but I guess it's pretty telling how it tends to show up regularly in both "best" and "worst" cover lists.

The original version of Knocking on Heavens' door was by Bob Marley. I always tought it was Bob Marley or Eric Clapton. :lol

I heard a cover of the Cars' Just What I Needed, by some horrible new emo group.

Rather than trying something new (even if it doesn't work, I can respect that), they just sapped all the soul out of the original and made it boring.

Of course, the answer to "why?" is, as always:

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Come to think of it, there were a lot of covers from songs by The Smiths. Please, I shall never know of their existance, please. :(

I lost my will to live after hearing this. Also her performance of it on some vhi1 divas concert made me lose iq points. :(

Korn - Wicked.
The original is monster of a track. Instead we get Korns special brand of crapola with Chino warbling all over it. Bleh.

Swans - Love Will Tear Us Apart.
Love Swans, but sorry Jarboe, not your brightest moment.

It's hard for me to choose any worst covers. Generally a cover that would piss me off is one of a recent song and doesn't add anything new to it. I find stuff like Avril Lavigne's "Chop Suey" to be too funny to be considered bad (who knows if she's even serious about it.) And even though I don't listen to A Perfect Circle's "Emotive" album ever I like the idea that they at least tried to add their own twists. I can't bash them for trying - although it was a piece of shat album to release.
