My friend wants to buy a birthday gift for his girlfriend (she lives in the UK), I suggested one of the DS + Nintendogs bundles, he liked the idea and thought the price was right, but he said "She has two real dogs, why would she bother with a virtual one?"

What do you guys think?

I'm a dog owner and Nintendogs was fun for a week...then it became a chore. Then it was left untouched for two weeks and then I sold it on

I was really disappointed that the game just stops being fun after a few days. It's not a virtual pet at all, IMO. It's not even close to replicating owning a pet (I don't know how anyone could think it is tbh)

Don't get it. Instead get something like Trauma Center or Ace Attorney. Nintendogs is just bornign for dog owners. Plus, it yields no real satisfaction for all your effort and time. Hell, I would also recommend Mario 64 or Wario Ware over Nintendogs.

I have a dog, I love her, and I have a Nintendog too. It's just a lot of fun. My own dog is quite lazy, but my Shiba Inu in Nintendogs is very active.

It's basically like Animal Crossing in the sense that there's no real goal, but the game has more depth than you would think.

It'll probably get boring after a while, but other games get boring too after you've played through them.

She was never that much into gaming before but imported a DS with Nintendogs from Japan on day one

I am a real dog owner and I play Nintendogs every day. Owning dogs isn't really a good predictor of whether someone would like the game or not, though. Now, it isn't like I sit for an hour and play the game. I take my dog for a walk every day and some days I mess around with training. The main thing that keeps me coming back every day is I have 100%ed the game (or non-game).

Even though Nintendogs is a very good game, I wouldn't recommend it to a dog owner or for a children to see "if he could take good care of a real dog".

It doesn't help that I took a shi-tzu, just like my dog who passed away 2 years ago because it's not the same thing. A dog has way more variety of actions than in the game and it simply can't replicate a real relation, although the effort is there.
