and those idiots on PTI/AtH/1stand10 were arguing that there was nobody worth watching in the HR derby. Dumbasses.
that's why they're dumbasses. 24 and counting.

after all i read about how selig ruined the derby with the country bullshit, this is a good slap in the face. i'd still rather see a normal derby, but i mean... 24...

shit

Holy shit, this actually may be the greatest idea Selig ever had. With the way hispanics pride themselves with their home country....holy shit...I wouldn't doubt Ortiz could go off for like 40. :X

shit completely forgot about this.

what's up with Abreu? how many HRs he hit?

edit: Nevermind, holy shit! 24!? man that's insane

Abreu was one of the few players that actually belong in the event though. The "World Derby" is still up there with the Wheel of Dunks as all time horrible all-star break ideas.

why? The only player you could argue doesn't belong is Jason Bay (and maybe the roid-less IRod), everyone else are legit HR hitters. And even when they don't do the "world derby" there are guys that throw up stinkers like Bay did this year.

Choi doesn't belong, Tiexiera was questionable at best. Half the field has no business being in a homerun derby.

Texiera is a crazy good HR hitter, he is 1st or 2nd in the AL in hrs, are you insane? And Choi has some pop too, but i'll give you him. Abreu, Andrew Jones, David Ortiz, Texiera all belong, in ANY year. Choi and Irod might be questionable, but they have some pop, and IRod plays for Detroit and there is a homer pick every year. Bay is really the only WTF pick. And having the "great" homerun hitters doesn't always=HR Derby success. ARod used to always stink it up in the derbies until he stopped going. Bonds wasn't that good either a couple years ago.

Tex leads the AL in HRs.

He's not as much about his talent as the fact that nobody in the US gives a good god damn about him. If you're going to pick one player from the US to do this thing, it's at least got to be somebody that everybody in the US knows. The one player-per-country format limited the star power that this could have, and that's the point of the home run derby. It's not nearly as much success this year as it is how well known the players are that matters.

Who would you pick over Texiera? Every great HR hitter is normally a foreign player. Derek Lee up until a week ago wasn't sure if he'd be out for a few weeks or not cause of his shoulder. Are you gonna put Morgan Ensberg in there?

Did you just call me A-Rod? Thanks pal! :D

:lol No that's no it, what I meant was that he almost never says or recognize his Dominican, this angered the dominican press(which bash him to no end) and the dominican people, now he is saving face by participating with the Dominican Republic team for the baseball world cup and carrying the Dominican Republic flag everywhere he goes

he's hitting Little League speed pitches. What a beast. You can see him do the exact same thing before every game at batting practice.
