WoW question

I played WoW for the free month, and I liked it, but not enough to pay the $13/mo. So I've got this copy just sitting here collecting dust.

Yesterday my coworker mentioned that she wants to play, and since I don't use my copy any more, I was thinking of giving it to her. But since I already signed up with the serial number and cancelled the account, does that render this copy of WoW invalid, or would she be able to sign up normally and play it?

I think she probably needs to buy a new copy now.

Or maybe I am wrong, but you would have to have her change all of the account details if they are persistent.

She will have to use your account name and install from your CD. Technically, Blizzard doesn't want you to do this, but it would be possible to give her your login information, then she could change the appropriate account settings.

I'm not sure if its possible but I would expect you can just give her your account name and password (change it first obviously if its a pass you use for lots of things)... might be worth deleting the credit card details as well.

wow.. this is so common I can't believe there isn't a definitive asnwer yet..

the definitive answer is that yes she can do it. You need to provide her with your login information (CDs to install from would also be a BIG plus). If you deactivated your account she will need to logon to the account maintenance screen (found on the front page of the web site) and reactivate the account and provide billing info. If you haven't already cancelled your account, then just make sure she logs in and changes the billing info.

Once she has changed the billing info, she just installs the game and then logs in with your username and password.

This is actually entirely legal according to blizzard (and even SOE). What is supposedly illegal is selling just the username and password. You are supposed to transfer over the entire game.

Common? I just started playing WoW in the last few weeks and it's my first MMORPG ever.

Does everyone play MMORPGs and transfer the account? I would think not.

I wasn't insinuating anything about you. sorry. I was just saying that this is VERY common and thought more people would chime in.

As to if everyone does it, pretty damn close. Let's do the math. I play Game A. It costs me $50 to buy. I am done with Game A and afterwards Friend B decides he wants to try it. Well, there are two options here. Either Friend B can buy the game also for $50, or he can have my account which will only cost him $15 to activate. Which do you think happens most often?

It literally happens all the time. And that is just legitimately. It even happens a ton more when taking into account auctioned accounts on ebay and sold accounts on farm sites.

only the collector's edition came with the buddy pass. regular wow doesn't come with it.

That's changed. My normal copy of WoW I bought at the beginning of the year came with the guest pass. The ones that came out at release did not have the pass.
