Wow, To The 5 Boroughs is REALLY awesome.

I wasn't too fond of "Ch-Check it Out," and I didn't really like the album at all the first few listens, but it's grown on me significantly. Really good stuff. It's a regression back to Paul's Boutique in some ways, but that album is epic.. so I'm not complaining. The samples they used are really awesome. I'm feeling "Right Right Now Now" the most so far... I'll defintely be buying this on Tuesday.

Talking about pirated stuff is a good way to get yourself banned :(

What? I always used to post reviews of leaked albums on the old board, and nobody gave a shit. Hell, I even used the actual group release name of the album as the title of the thread.

It's officially out in Japan, anyways.

I considered that having read John tv's write-up on it.. but this isnt the Japanese cover so that's pretty irrelevant.

I don't think talking about pirated stuff is ban-worthy. Talking how to obtain it and such is however.

And anyway, it's not like some people don't already have the album legitimately anyway.

This is by far one of the worst political statements made by the beastie boys. Its a trash album with only 2-3 good songs for those are diehard Beastie fans.

I've been a fan of the beastie boys back from when i was a little kid and i'm just not satisfyed ater 6 years of waiting. This is not the kind of crap i wanna listen too.

Yeah, this album is really lacking in anything lyrically impactful(too much political whining), and the beats themselves, surprisingly, aren't too exciting. In my current opinion, it's just a very sterile, boring album. I'll chalk this one up as the first mediocre Beastie Boys album. Good scratching on the record though :)
Hopfully it improves upon repeated lessons. It's different from the creative explosions of their past albums. Ch-Check it Out is a genuinely good B-Boys track.

dont post threads about leaked albums! CAUSE THE RIAA WILL SUE US INSTEAD OF THE THOUSANDS OF BIT TORRENT SITES FORUMS AND SHIT THAT ACTUALLY SHARE IT.

I actually liked "Check it Out" just because it was so old Beastie Boys and it was catchy. I don't like the rest of the album so far. In fact I turned it off about 1/4 in and listening to The Streets "A Grand Don't come For Free"

I wasn't expecting very much from it. I still haven't heard it, but I really felt bad seeing a bunch of middle aged men rapping on the MTV Movie Awards. They looked just pathetic.

Yeah, lyrically and musically, the album is pretty bland. Not horrible, nothing just sticks out after it's over.

Although I hate the political ramblings, I enjoy "It Takes Time to Build." "That's It That's All" is good, and I really like the beat. I also really like "An Open Letter to NYC," especially that guitar riff (or whatever that is) in the background. "Ch-Check It Out" is great, obviously, probably the best song on the CD, sadly. With the exception of those 4 songs, the album is pretty worthless.

I haven't heard the album yet but why is everyone so down on the political lyrics? Is it because they don't work or is it because you don't want to hear anything with substance or what?

didnt impress me, i was really looking forward to it. right right now now is pretty much the only interesting track. i was expecting more singles of the "root down" variety, less production, more attitude.

It grew on me - but it just doesnt have the variety the Beasties usually have on an album. Most of the songs have the same pace, same sound, etc. The beats are awesome though - and the later half of the album seems a lot stronger then the first.

Just my opinion of course.

I'm not going to buy it. KROQ played about three songs from it the other morning, and every single one of them was utter shit, including "Ch-Ch-Check It Out," or however you spell it. Every album since Paul's Boutique has gotten a little bit worse than the one before it, and I'm not surprised that this album will be the final nail in the coffin.

To each his own... but I like it. It is a little too political for my tastes (especially their chants of "Who got the power to make a difference? We got. We got..."), but my complaint is that I can see how it can sound all the same. There are no "punk" style tracks or any of their patentent funky instrumentals, just standard BBoys rhyming.

But what is there I think is good. As good as Paul's Boutique or Check Your Head? No way. But I think it's better than Hello Nasty. Hello Nasty was overproduced, I don't see how anyone can say 5 Boroughs is. After listening to it a few times now I like it more and more, which is always a good sign of a good album.

(And I have a legit copy so back off! I got it at a local record store today a few days early...)

It pains me to listen to a majority of this album. I guess Mario C got out while he could, because the production on this album is a joke. Instead of the intricately layered beats that we got from the Beasties post Paul's Boutique, we get unimaginative BS2000 offshoot beats. Luckily for them, they maintain their trademark humor and style, so they slide lyrically.

I've read a lot of people say this is better than Hello Nasty, but I don't think TT5B is within a lightyear of it. This album doesn't have one song like "The Move," "The Grasshoper Unit," "Negotiation Limerick File," "Unite," etc.

If I wait 6 years for a Beastie Boys album, I expect some groundbreaking shit, not some stale, lifeless, whipped-together-in-2-hours Casio beats.

The only songs I really dig on this album are "Ch-Check It Out," "Right Right Now Now" and "Rhyme The Rhyme Well."

I sincerely hope they get back in the studio, pick the instruments back up, and get to work on another album.

At least they can still put on a live show.
