I've been noticing more and more that TV ratings boxes shown at the beginning of shows are about four times as big as they were before.

What gives?

HEALTH AND SAFETY WARNING

- Some people (about 1 in 4000) may have seizures or blackouts triggered by light flashes or patterns, such as while watching TV or playing video games, even if they have never had a seizure in the past.
- Anyone who has had a seizure, loss of awareness, or other symptom linked to an epileptic condition should consult a doctor before watching television.
- Parents should watch when their children watch television. Stop watching and consult a doctor if you or your child have any of the following symptoms:

Convulsions
Loss of awareness
Involuntary movements
Eye or muscle twitching
Altered vision
Disorientation

I'm more curious about just how much bigger FOX can make their on screen promos. Nothing like some dramatic or funny scene in one of your favourite shows when WHOOSH a gigantic animated promo for some show that probably shares 1% of the audience of the current show covers about 1/3 of the screen. The way they make the promo graphics so animated and colourful that you can not possible not be completely distracted by them just freaks me out. They might as well have sound over top the original program... oh shit that can't be more than a couple of years away.

Well with the extreme right in control, they've been putting even MORE pressure on the stations to warn viewers of potentially risque stuff that children might be exposed to before the show starts, hence the enlarged ratings.

Never mind that we have the V-Chip and optional safe channels and installed filtering software on cable and satellite boxes and the remote for changing the channel or the goddamned off switch to not watch TV in the first place; they STILL have to bitch about 'unsafe' TV.

Rant ovar.

It already has sound on a couple of stations, and yes, it does suck that much.

Really? I haven't noticed a thing!

Cable stations recently made the graphic larger, leaving it up longer and putting it up after every commercial break. They've also been airing ads meant to tell parents about the ratings and ways to prevent kids from watching inappropriate stuff. It's all meant to stave off regulation, as there's been vague talk about making legislation to put cable channels under the same regulations as broadcast.
