There have been a number of meetings at WWE Headquarters in Connecticut this week about the ECW 'One Night Stand' PPV. At this point, the consensus is that WWE should aim for a balance between wrestlers who can actually deliver in the ring and older talents that can draw a crowd, despite not being able to wrestle as well as in the past.

WWE hopes to avoid a purely nostalgic program, with the possible intention of creating an entity that can stand on its own. There has been at least some talk of running more PPVs or house shows in old ECW markets. Before rumors get out of hand, WWE is not planning to bring the brand back permanently, but the strong DVD sales indicate that there could be more reach to the product than a single PPV. The success of the PPV on 6/12 will largely determine WWE's course for Extreme Championship Wrestling.

Hah, count me in as a guy who follows zero wrestling now but still bought the ECW DVD. I was in Philadelphia during its heyday, after all.

What would be the point of restarting it, though? Like the DVD interviews reiterated, ECW died partly because all the other franchises took their style and made it palatable enough for the mainstream crowd to become the norm. Restarting it now would be like restarting GameFan.

Exactly, this is WWE, they always screw up the simplest of stories and event bookings.

All they have to do is to get the following people in the same arena for at least 1 night and it'll be a success.

Rhyno is still probably gonna make the One Night Stand ppv, despite the walking papers. RVD is gonna be on the shelf, which sucks.

I don't get the idea of spinning off a seperate entity, tho. I mean, unless you're gonna give Paul E. direct and total creative control over it, what's the point? WWE should concentrate on making their current product less shitty and then maybe these people that used to be big ECW or even pre-suck era WCW fans will start tuning back in. It's not hard to fix. Here you go:

1) Fire the entire creative staff, including Steph and HHH.
2) Have Paul E. book one show, and Shane book the other.
3) HAVE THE WRESTLERS COME UP WITH IDEAS FOR THEIR CHARACTERS. This is what made the Attitude era so appealing- you really had the feeling that Stone Cold, the Rock, Mick Foley and Angle there towards the end were saying stuff that mattered to them, and you could believe and identify with it. When you have 12 untrained monkeyboy excuses for Hollywood writers having to hash everything out in a fucking committee for every goddamn angle, and write dialogue for guys that they don't feel natural or comfortable with, the product is going to suffer. Exhibit A: the past several years.
4) STOP PUSHING BIG USELESS PILES OF SHIT LIKE HEIDENREICH, SNITSKY ETC. Focus on guys who can do interesting things in the ring- Paul London, RVD when he gets back from injury, hell anyone who the crowd NATURALLY POPS FOR. That's who needs a fucking push, you douchebags.
5) NO MORE HORSESHIT DIVA SEARCHES OR TOUGH ENOUGH. If you want the women's division to be eye candy only, that's fine. But don't waste 10 minutes of every show with obnoxious reality tv tripe. Bleah. Give me some action. Hell, give me more Christian and Carlito promos.
