"Legion" introduces the story of David Haller: Since he was a teenager, David has struggled with mental illness. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.

With all the superhero shows being filmed there I swear to god at some point we're going to get some shot in a different show where they accidentally catch Green Arrow flipping off a building in the background.

Is every climax gonna take place in the same warehouse too?

Does this take place in the current movie canon or is it completely new?
Hopefully completely new. I'd like the movies to focus on spinoff stuff like The New Mutants and (Uncanny) X-Force while we have the main X-Men moving on to the approximate format of TV. Won't happen, but I can dream.

My guess is it won't outright acknowledge or overrule the movies. It's going to be its own narrative that can probably just as easily fit or in the bigger X-Men world.

Is he still Professor X's son? I hadn't heard about him since Age of Apocalypse.

Not sure if that's the direction they'll go here, but yeah in the comics he's still Prof. X's son. He was actually the star of one of the best X-Men books of the past few years, X-Men Legacy (2013). It spun out of Prof. X's death in AvX, it was appropriately insane but also fantastic.

New. It won't have anything to with the films.

Well, that unfortunately eliminates a core part of Legion's character :(

The end of that book was exceptionally poignant too.

I really wish the X-Men movies were a TV series so that the large cast could get the screen time they need. (I know, we wouldn't get anywhere near the same budget.) But sure, let's make a series about one mutant instead. :p

I know it's foolish to hope that Fox traded the rights to The Fantastic Four to Marvel to get this off the ground...

... But I want to believe. Let me believe my lies.

Cool, good to know. I think it makes sense that his son would have a lot of mental issues.

They might as well mention the New York invasion every other episode anyway, it'll still have the same level of connection to the films as Daredevil then.

The Flash has some pretty out there effects for a network show (from what I've seen since I don't watch it). I think one of those cable networks that seem to have bigger budget things would be a good fit.

I have no idea if the TV terminology I used is correct, but I think it gets the point across.

You could swap that synopsis with Moon Knight and nobody would know the difference beyond the guys name.

Full PR:
LOS ANGELES, May 31, 2016 – FX Networks has ordered the first season of Legion, the story of a troubled young man who may be more than human, it was announced today by Nick Grad and Eric Schrier, Presidents of Original Programming, FX Networks and FX Productions. Dan Stevens (Downton Abbey), Rachel Keller (Fargo), Jean Smart (Fargo), Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation), Jeremie Harris (A Walk Among the Tombstones), Amber Midthunder (Hell or High Water), Katie Aselton (The League) and Bill Irwin (Interstellar) star in Legion. Production on the eight-episode first season will begin this summer in Vancouver and the new series from FX Productions and Marvel Television will debut on FX in early 2017.

“We’ve come to expect excellence from Noah Hawley and with Legion he has delivered another major creative achievement,” said Grad. “Just as he did in reimagining Fargo, he is bringing an entirely new aesthetic and sensibility to the enormously popular and richly represented X-Men world. The pilot episode is stunning, driven by incredible performances from Dan Stevens, Aubrey Plaza, Jean Smart, Rachel Keller and the rest of the cast. We join our producing partners at Marvel in congratulating the creative team for what they’ve accomplished and are as excited as the fans for the premiere of Legion’s first season.”

“Marvel Television is thrilled to not only have our first partnership with FX go to series, but working with the enormously talented Noah Hawley makes it even better,” said Executive Producer Jeph Loeb. “From the first time we heard Noah’s vision to his exceptional script and cast through the extraordinary filming of the pilot, we knew the series would be incredible.”

Legion introduces the story of David Haller: Since he was a teenager, David has struggled with mental illness. Diagnosed as schizophrenic, David has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real.

Noah Hawley (Fargo) will serve as an Executive Producer along with Lauren Shuler Donner (X-Men: Days of Future Past, Deadpool), Bryan Singer (X-Men: Apocalypse, Superman Returns), Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past, The Martian), Jeph Loeb (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Jessica Jones), Jim Chory (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel’s Daredevil, Marvel’s Jessica Jones) and John Cameron (Fargo, The Big Lebowski). Legion is the latest project from Hawley and Cameron, two of the Executive Producers of the Emmy® and Golden Globe® -winning FX limited series Fargo.

8 episodes.

Finally a superhero show without 5 episodes of filler. And the Fargo dude is doing it, already the best superhero show on tv.

I for one cant wait for DC and Marvel to finally put everything aside and establish the Vancouver-verse

Interesting deal that hopefully leads to more co-operation between FOX and Marvel. For now I'm going to assume this is not part of the MCU though.
