Better be good. I was hoping for Whedon.
According to The Hollywood Reporter and this Friday story in Empire Online, Marvel and Fox have hired screenwriter Simon Kinberg, who previously labored on Marvels upcoming Elektra and Fantastic Four movies, to pen a script for the third "X-Men" feature.
Kinberg also authored screenplays for the upcoming "XXX" sequel and Doug Liman's upcoming Brad Pitt romantic thriller "Mr. and Mrs. Smith."
Writer-director Joss Whedon - the Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly mastermind whos currently in post-production on Serenity, his feature directorial debut - is receiving much critical acclaim for his work writing the ongoing comic-book series Astonishing X-Men, and in August expressed interest in directing the third X-Men movie.
Sources reveal that Whedon has subsequently been in discussions with the franchises producers but also that no "X3" deal with Whedon has yet been struck.
