Xbox 360 Dashboard update coming Monday

It isn't Monday, yet. Not in USA ;-)
Time Zones.

In any case people have jobs which don't involve being at work at 1am (Pacific) on a Sunday night / monday morning. If this update does come don't expect it until later in the morning or afternoon, hell maybe even late at night.

Maybe they should fix the damn DVD player, it doenst work properly on SD-tv's sadly (on my CRT monitor its no problem).
If you're using a pal system, make sure it's set to 50Hz in the dash. It doesn't auto-adjust for some reason, so instead it does a nasty pulldown or something (actually, it might just repeat frames, i never paid too much attention to it since i was replacing my old SD set...) when it's set to 60Hz (it works fine at 50, and auto-switches to 576p50 with component cables, and i imagine does something similar with a vga cable). Fucking annoying though, since there are already games that only work at 60Hz out (and any sane gamer would probably leave it at 60Hz by default), so you'd have to be switching back and forth every time you use it to watch a dvd... Should be easily fixed though, i imagine, if they ever do actually update the dvd player.

alternatively use 480p/50 please MS. Respect your PAL owners
Err.... it already ouputs PAL dvds at 576p...

Of course! lol why didn't I think of that :D

The stutter is caused by the console outputting at 60Hz when the source material is 50Hz. D'oh! I have my machine set to 60Hz and I only tried a couple of PAL DVDs but all of them had pretty bad stutter problems

How is it possible for software DVD players to output smooth PAL DVDs on computer monitors that are a minimum 60hz, yet the 360 can't?

I don't want to be setting 50/60 all the bloody time thanks. How about being intelligent enough and autoswitching?

There's no 50Hz option with a VGA cable :( I would loved it, for the media center capabilities. I always watch my TV shows with annoying stutters on my media center, because it outputs at 60Hz, so watching it on the 360 at 50Hz would be great.

Keep your pants on people. MS is on the west coast here in the US. It's 5:37 AM there right now. They haven't even gotten into the office I bet. If it happens today, it could be later in the day as well.

here's hoping it allows AACs to be played that WEREN'T encoded by itunes. :(

all those songs on my ipod and I can only listen to the couple dozen purchased ones I stripped. :(

Blame Apple

so will this fix the lock up issue everyones having in PGR3 when you go to the dashboard in the middle of a game session?

sure would be a nice fix to no longer freeze.

Why is Apple to blame? Can you elaborate?

He's probably referring to the fact that you can't play music you've downloaded from the Itunes store through your X360... something about Apple not sharing the DRM info necessary for the X360 to be able to play those songs....

I don't think that's it. borghe was complaining that AAC songs that were not encoded by itunes, but instead encoded by Nero, would not play on his Xbox 360.

I don't think it had anything to do with purchased songs.

the dr. is right.. I love how you mention AAC in an X360 thread and you get blame apple. AAC IS NOT AN APPLE THING PEOPLE!!! :\

no, the problem is that if you encode AAC from pretty much anything else (FAAC, Nero, Psytel, etc) it will not play on the X360. My Nero encodes play perfectly on every and any thing that says it plays AAC/MPEG4 (including itunes and my ipods) except the X360. I emailed hellfire an iTMS file with the DRM stripped that actually works on the X360, and then a Nero encoded file that doesn't work and he said he passed it on to the AAC plugin devs. Here's to hoping we see something in this dashboard update for it.

and for those saying reencode or whatnot.. at 4000+ tunes it ain't happening. and the reason I went with Nero in the first place was because it was the only quality encoder with VBR AAC (itunes didn't get VBR until late last year in 5.0)

So this thread has informed me of three things:

1.) Xbox live is laggy
2.) MGS4 will become available on the Xbox 360 (sometime during a download, I don't know when) and
3.) MICRO TRANSACTIONS BISHES!

1. I think "buggy" would be more accurate. Sometimes I feel like a damn beta tester.

2. If it ever does come out, it will be so late that nobody cares.

3. One of the best features of 360 is downloading stuff... even if I'm paying for it.

RE: 1. I think we truly are the beta testers. Given how late they had real hardware, there's just no way they could've tested this stuff thoroughly. We're finding all the bugs.

Hehe, who said the 360 did not have a MMORPG at launch, :lol
