Xbox 360 Faceplates

To all those who think the faceplates cost $1 to manufacture, or 25 cents, they actually cost around $7 each. One of the factors is that there are 10 moving parts on the faceplate... the doors, the power button, etc... and the way the graphic is printed is actually part of the mold (I forget what they call this), but its not a "label" they just put on the outside of the plastic. From what I am told, this drives up the cost as well, since it results in a much higher quality look.

Faceplates are just a cheap addition to 'Special edition' packages of games.

PREORDER PERFECT HALO 3 and get free faceplate!

That could work well. Much better than the $20 price tag

If you are talking about faceplates they result in a much cheaper look to me quite frankly. They all look horrible.

I was addressing the production process of the faceplate, not how a certain faceplate appeals to your tastes... thanks!

I had wondered how they made the power button, mem card doors, etc. part of the optional faceplates. So it's all integrated into one thingy, huh? No need to clip something onto the power button or whatever separately? That's pretty cool, really. On the other hand I guess it bodes ill for there ever being a chance for design-your-own plates Ă  la some sort of Nike iD-type process, which would be sweet. Good info, regardless. :)

They Should have a make your own Faceplate. Hell intigrate it into the Xbox 360, put a program to design one for yourself. Pay through Xbox Live, and have it shipped for $25 Clean. They would sell a shitload that way. Have a seperate design Program online for people without XBL

I kinda like this one.

But I think may wait for a wood-paneled-looking one. That'd be kinda fun.

Sounds like he knows something concrete, and passed on some worthwhile information. Don't be Mr. Defensive Ass!

What's the general GAF interest level for the 360 faceplates? At $20 they're a bit steep to buy more than one or two, but are the faceplates something that get you excited at all? Most of them look too busy and clashy with the design of the rest of the system, but a nice clean white one with an simple design would be cool.

I wish these would be used more for stuff like preorder bonuses than as general accessories; especially since they can't cost more than $1 to manufacture in China.

That's a great question, because seriously I've paid very little attention to it!

And I agree, they probably cost $1 and MS is making some Mad Money (tm) off of it.

Though I admit I would get one if it had Batman Begins related stuff on it, or Arrested Development stuff on it. The latter being improbable to the point of impossibility...but still.

Hockey team ones would be pretty sweet though I have to admit.

Custom or limited edition face plate, please.

Panzer Dragoon 360 Face Plate, ala the Limited Edition Xbox? Oh my yes.

You rock, this was the one I had in mind come launch day. Thanks for the picture.

Btw-I don't get some of you people. All too many times you'll the geeks wetting themselves over multi colored PS2s or Famicom edition GameBoys. You've got guts damning these face plates.:lol

I want glossy black, component system black and component system stainless.

Actually the last two seem sort of vital.

And a Katamari one for shits + giggles.

It's a pearlescent white. Like a cadillac or a lexus. it reflects light weirdly, you have to see it in real life. Like the Mac G4s.

I'll probably get the silver one then. I would also get a FF11 one that looked nice even though I have no intention of buying the game :p

edit: wait, doesn't it come with the $400 package?

well my X360 is going in the AV cupboard with every other ugly device I have. Only two things on top are simple silver boxes.

BTW, is the remote control thingy IR or RF? I can stick it in a cupboard with RF controllers, and it'd be handy if the remote is RF too. Doesn't matter if I have to buy the accessory version instead of the mini one.

I am painting my whole system black.
Hot damn, this is what I would like to do as well. Alas, I have not the skills. I would pay extra for that though. Perhaps they could come out with a flat black face plate, cause I'd but it in a heartbeat.

I've seen better looking variations of that faceplate.

Personally I don't want one that's a solid color, because the rest of the 360 will still be white, which would look odd. That's why I like the E3 faceplate so much, essentially the same color as the 360, with a cool embellishment.

You can plainly see the IR port on the 360, so...

I heard the E3 faceplate doesn't fit on the X360.

It doesn't fit some of the dev kits which have a slightly different shape.

The only ones I'd consider buying would be a black one to match the rest of my AV equipment or a glow in the dark one. I wouldn't buy either for $20 though, even though I hate the color of the system.

i still have one of those e3 faceplates. neglected to sell it on ebay. i wonder if they're still going for decent prices.

thanks. Bit of a disappointment though. they clearly have an RF receiver built in, so it actually costs them money (not much, granted) to put an IR receiver in.

Unlike faceplates, the stands were necessary to actually be able to use your Ps2.

I still remember stories of Ps2s that wouldn't work unless they were vertical. In some cases, even upside down. :lol

necessary for what? I've had my PS2 up vertically w/o a stand for 2 years.

I don't really understand the hate for faceplates. If you're not interested, that's fine, don't buy one. It's a purely cosmetic OPTION, so fucking relax.

If the shipping was reasonable I'd totally consider importing one of those Japanese faceplates.

what a worthless feature.
Right. Like cellular phones faceplates, like desktop themes and every other similar thing that permits you to customize your gear. But guess what? People *likes* this kind of things and spends moneys for them.

I don't know if it's the case in USA, but here in Italy phone faceplates (mainly Nokia's) have got a huge market, like other pay-per-customization services like phone wallpapers and ringtones. People likes to customize its things, and pays for this.

The e3 one is nice, i kinda like the PGR3 one but i think whether or not these things look good depends where your 360 is, if you can see too much of the top/sides it isnt gonna work.

I wish the whole thing was 'skinable' rather than just the faceplate or at least 3 of the sides so it looks right stood up.
