Xbox 360 Quake 4 question..

I played through the Quake 4 demo on the marketplace and really enjoyed it. There seems to be some framerate problems, however the graphics and especially the sound (5.1) were top-notch. My question is , how bad the framerate problems get as the game progresses? It's a shame that the framerate problems exist, because otherwise I found the game very enjoyable and quite cinematic as well.

Anyone played through this on x360 and any comments?

p.s: no "play it on pc" bs.

The game never becomes unplayable. The main issue is that the framerate is becomes unstable quite often. I got the game and enjoyed it quite a bit, despite the framerate issues.

I had no problems with it. Yes, there's some slowdown, but it never really hampered my enjoyment of the game. I really dug the atmosphere, the storyline, and the "old school shooter" feel. There's a nice bonus disc with Quake II, as well. I bought it used for $50, and thought it was well worth the money. You can find it on ebay for an average of $35 nowadays.

I haven't played much multiplayer since it's the standard "run around grabbing weapons and shooting everything you see," but I have played a few times. It can get laggy, yes. But I have played a couple of sessions with no lag.

I'm not a framerate whore, so thanks for the comments. I'm not so much interested in the multiplayer either. It's probably the only pure "run-and-gun" shooter (my favorite style) on xbox 360 right now. Some of the reviews I read and comments I've read made the game sound like almost unplayable due to framerate issues. Just shows how out of touch my tastes are with reviews sites I guess.

CoD 2, Amped 3 and Quake 4 will be my next xbox 360 purchases..

I don't know what level is featured in that demo, but I don't know either a single mentally stable human being who can enjoy the entire Quake 4 experience. Can I suggest you to buy another game? If you are still interested on throwing away your hard earned money I can give you my paypal address, I need to fill my tank.

The framerate problem only shows up a few times and I realy never found it killed the gameplay except for one evil autosave point.

Nope. The game is never nowhere near unplayable (and I played it on 1080i.) It is a fun game that was punished mainly because it's a technically poor port. It doesn't take advantage of the 360 hardware, and the framerate shows this. Framerate aside, the game looks really beautiful at times.

If you haven't yet bought it then buy Call Of Duty 2 instead. It's just a better game in so many ways. I know they're different games and all, but COD2 is the better game and is much more enjoyable

This is definitely true. Between CoD2 and Quake 4, CoD2 is the better option.

Amped 3, on the other hand, sucks. You can easily beat the single player campaign in a rental period (that's what I did.)

I just can't believe that there's been such an outcry against the performance of Quake 4, but I've seen not one review mention the absolutely horrible performance of NFS:MW which has constant framedrops and tearing all over the place when you run it in HD.

Quake 4 never really gets unplayable though the framerate does tank here and there. Oh and at least there's no tearing, which the 360 just can't seem to get enough of.

I had a total blast with the game, it sounds and looks great all the way through to the end, its just lacking some polish is all. It doesn't deserve the roasting it got in reviews at all.

I played Quake at a mate's house and I had the option of lending it to complete it...or sticking with my copy of Call Of Duty 2 to complete on Veteran. Guess what I picked between playing a new game (Quake) or completing a game twice in five weeks (COD2)? :D

Amped is fun but, like IJoel said, it's too short. I finished it in just over a week (got everything apart from a handful of challenges as well)

NFS's framerate sucks. Reviews didn't mention it because...erm I don't know. They should have though because it DID make the game unplayable. Quake 4's framerate is mostly smooth with a few dips...NFS's is practically a constant 15fps. It's even worse than Full Auto's...and that is some accomplishment!
