Xbox 360: Zero Hour

Wait, will the Best Buy in the middle of the desert have enough systems to sell to everyone in attendance? So there's a chance you could drive forever to the middle of nowhere for the big launch event and not be able to buy one? =/

Are you serious or what?

Hey they say the location is Top Secret. What if the party is taking place...

... ON TOP OF THE ET 2600 LANDFILL! ZOMG!

Ok... my buddy won 2 tickets to the launch event. He asked me to go with him but I originally opted out because I live in Chicago and wasn't about to spend $450 on airfare to get to the desert to buy a Xbox.

Long story short, we convinced our boss to give us the day off and pay for our airfare out there. Here's the problem... WHERE THE HELL IS THIS PLACE. He won the tickets (actually wristbands) and we have yet to find out where exactly it's at. We need to book the flight soon or else we have to come up with the difference. He heard it was just north of Palmdale California (just north of LAX) but this is far off from the Mojave Desert.

Please help as I really want to attend since it's free!

Nope... nothing yet. We're hoping they're going to give directions in the package that contains the wrist bands... but nothing yet.

This was posted on the xbox.com forums, presumably by an MS employee:

Lots of people have asked for details about the Zero Hour event. Here are a few:

The address:
Hangar 703
Palmdale Airport
2825 E. Ave P
Palmdale, CA 93550

You can check out some photos of the space as we’re building it:

Also, winners in the U.S. should be receiving their wristbands in the mail today or tomorrow. We can’t stress enough the importance of having your wristband and photo ID when you get to the site.

There will be military-grade security at Zero Hour. No joke. If you're from the U.S. and don't have a wristband, you won't get in. Period.

If you’re outside of the U.S., be sure to bring a photo ID to get your wristband onsite

I can't wait to get home from work and see if my wrist bands are there!

Hmmm, i got the email saying a won a ticket, but yet to receive the wristbands. THEY BETTER BE HERE TOMORROW OR IM STORMING THAT PLACE GTA SYLE!

Sounds like they are going to match the IDs to names on a list. So people who bought the wristbands of eBay will not be getting in.

I hope mine will come tomorrow.

ITS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DESERT AND HAS 'MILITARY-GRADE' SECURITY!

REMEMBER TO TAKE YOUR LEVIATHAN:

Why do they claim it's in the Mojave Desert, yet it's actually located in Palmdale? Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the Mojave Desert about 100 miles west of LA close to the California and Arizona border?

Oh haha, I got this in an email a few days ago from MS and thought that I was actually INVITED, I filed the email away and forgot about it. I didn't even realize it was a contest. :lol

If it were 100 miles west of LA, I have a feeling the event would be rather...wet. :)

Fly into Burbank or Ontario.

Where are my wristbands???? I hope that the east coast people will start posting soon that they got them. I hope mine will be waiting for me when I get home.

I really want to go to this but didn't get tickets. Any suggestions anyone?

Ebay? The problem is that we think the primary attendee's ID is gonna be cross checked with a list at the door, so you can't transfer that, but you could go as someone's guest?

Has anyone gotten their wristbands yet? I got an email yesterday that said more or less the same thing as that posting on Xbox.com, but it looks like people on the east coast are going to be picking up their wristbands at the event, while us people on the west coast are still waiting for the wristbands to show up in the mail (according to that email)...

It'll be kind of a colossal fuckup if all the people who actually live near the event and who could actually go without too much trouble end up getting their wristbands after the event :p Hopefully mine will show up today...

Also, that's it? no_to_co, AtJaguarX, SnowWolf, onion_pixy, chespace, who else is coming to this?

Phew - got my wristbands today. I was worried, because I had heard that DHL was delivering them today and that they would be requiring signatures...so I thought I might be scrambling around tomorrow morning to pick it up at the DHL office (which is only open til noon)...

...but instead I got home and saw that they had left them at my doorstep :) Bring on Sunday!

To the people who are going, should we organize a meetup? I guess I'm volunteering to coordinate, PM me if you're gonna be there...

I'm going thanks to CB. So wheres the meet taking place?

No idea yet. I don't know the venue so...

When are people planning to arrive at the event? I'm gonna get there on Sunday when it starts, and plan on staying for most of it (I did book a hotel room for myself so I can crash out, though)...

Had I been at home I would allow you crash at my place but I'm lucky to be staying at a friends place in palmdale during the event. sorry/

Hey, no worries, I live in LA so I'm really not going too far, just thought it would more convenient to crash there instead of trying to drive home and then drive back :)

OK, it looks like our group has gotten all their wristbands...

Did anyone choose not to buy a machine when you registered? I noticed that I got a couple of tickets with my purchase time on them that they say I absolutely must have to buy my machine, but I wonder what happens if you say you didn't want to buy a machine (but change your mind at the event)...would you be hosed at that point?
