Xbox Customer Service am dumb.

Okay so I call Xbox Customer Service because of my router problems with Perfect Dark Zero. I can't join games with more than 4 players when going through my *Xbox Live-compatible certified* router.

The guy on the line listens to my problem, and asks for the router I'm using. He puts me on hold for awhile. The he comes back and asks me if I'm using Xbox version 1 or 360. That was already weird, considering I had clearly stated my problem was in Perfect Dark Zero. Didn't know that game was on Xbox 1 as well. :lol

He then asks me if I've tried playing other games and if I experienced problems as well. I told him I played Halo 2 and that it worked flawlessly. He puts me on hold some more.

He comes back, with possible solutions. First he says that I should update my router to the latest firmware. I already had. That's where it gets major funny:

- Alright.. well.. then you should contact the manufacturer of the game.
- ... okay, and how do I do that?
- Oh! You don't have contact numbers?
- Errr no!
- Oh alright wait up I'll look it up.

*on hold some more*

- Sir?
- Yeah.
- You should contact Bungie, since...
- Errr no sir. Bungie made Halo 2. My problem is with Perfect Dark Zero.
- Oh.. hum.. wait I'll look it up.

*on hold some more*

- Sir?
- Yes?
- Okay. You should contact Microsoft, since they are the manufacturer of the game.
- Okay.
- You can call them at 1-800-Microsoft.
- And they can help me?
- Yeah. Is there anything else I can help you with?

So... :lol

Do I even *dare* call them? I have a strong feeling they'll be quite useless. :lol

But all funny aside. This still doesn't solve my problem.

I called them when I couldn't get my 360 to connect with my computer. Apparently they had no idea how to fix the problems, though the forums did. Framework v1.1 for the win.

Wait, was it caleld framework? Frameware? Firmwork?

Update: Well I tried calling 1-800-Microsoft as indicated by the support rep. The automated message says that for *any* Xbox support, to hang-up and call 1-800-4-MY-XBOX. So, yeah... Back at square one. :lol

I know its crazy, and I know good laughs are had by all, but sometimes when people start a new job they arent good at it for a while. Sometimes they sorta mess up n shit. Its wacky I know, not all of us are born with the innate ability to field Xbox Troubleshooting calls.

The problem is that level 1 tech support is such a horrible thankless job that no one stays there long enough to get good at it. You either get promoted or go insane working in a call center.

So errr... I called again and basically he's blaming my router/modem and telling me to call the router and cable companies. They're so clueless it hurts.

So errr, can anyone here help?

I had a similiar problem, I read on the Xbox.com forums to enable UPNP on your router. That worked fine for me.

Check your internet connection in the System blade too. You want to look at the NAT part, it should say "Open" or something similiar. If it says strict or moderate you might have trouble joining some games.

You can also try unplugging your router & modem for 30 seconds, and plug it back in.

Edit: read this, http://forums.xbox.com/1750581/ShowPost.aspx

You said it yourself that you blame the router, so why the fuck are you calling Microsoft about it? Call your router manufacturer.

That's the best advice you're gonna wind up with. Mind you, if you're connecting through Cox or Adelphia you may want to roll with a longer powercycle than 30 seconds.

What you're running into definitely sounds like latency or a NAT-type router conflict of some kind, so scope out that NAT reading. Especially if you're trying to join up with local buds on the same ISP or network grid. If it's latency, there's not much any XBL rep can do (competent or not) given that it's prime time on Saturday night at the moment. Just run a benchmark ping test on your PC to verify if you're getting bogged down.

In the Xbox 360 network config, it reports my NAT as being "Open". There's nothing wrong there. UPnP is enabled. Still doesn't work.

No. THEY are blaming the router/ISP. I blame Perfect Dark Zero's shitty coding, because it's the only game that's giving me this problem.

It's certainly not latency because the problem doesn't occur when I'm not using my router. And it's not a NAT issue either, because it's clearly Open and my Xbox 360 reports it as so. The router is also certified Xbox Live-compatible. Why the fuck isn't it working?

I wouldn't blame the coding but there may be legit issues with the PD0 servers. Seems like they're giving a lot of people grief over on the XBox.com forums. At least those who are connecting via routers as opposed to direct.

Innate ability?? One might expect a certain level of basic competence from someone doing a fairly easy job USING A SCRIPT. Maybe that is just me though.

btw, you don't happen to work for Microsoft, do you?

4 posts in this thread and you haven't mentioned the model of your router, you think the network gurus visiting this thread will want to help you ? It's the same for customers support, if they think you're a lost cause they will just act dumb and tell you to ask someone else about your problem.

They actually recommended a friend of mine to copy PDZ from a friend.

Because he accidentally sent the game with his 360, which was having warm-up problems.

They are crazy, CRAZY I TELL YOU.

It's a D-Link DI-524. It's on the Xbox Live compatible list. It even has the Xbox Live-compatible logo on the box.

Being on the Xbox Live compatible list means nothing. All the company did was provide a model to MS of the router and a bag of cash and they increase sales from people who are unsure of what they're buying. If you're router can handle ip traffic then your fine.
Dlinks are also well known for being cheap POS and i personally wouldnt go near one. Having said that, what you have you tried to troubleshoot your router? have you tried to connect through your PC (ICS) or direct to your modem? Remove the router from the equation and does the problem still happen to you? This is probably the fastest way to troubleshoot that particular question :D

Yes I have tried connecting directly through my modem and yes it works perfectly that way. But I can't have that. The router needs to stay. And it's only PDZ that has a problem with the router. Every other game or my PC work perfectly with it. Even my DS or PSP have no problems. It's only PDZ.
