Xbox Live - Silver, Gold, Platinum?

So we know about the free Silver account that comes with each and every 360 that will be the viral account to hopefully bring people to the Gold account, which provides for actual online play.

Do we think that there will be an eventual Platinum account that will say offer:

1) Discounted microtransactions
2) Live server storage space for files
3) Advance content
4) etc etc

How did SOE make out with the Everquest Gold accounts or whatever their upgraded accounts were called?

Thought? Questions? Bananas?

Bananas

but on a more serious note, having 2 different paid levels would be stupid. right now there's a free level (silver) and a paid one (gold). Any more would fragment the audience and complicate things and hopefully MS won't do it.

OK that about exhausts the bananas quotient....

But how does it hurt anything if most would still get what Live is: Online play? And did it hurt EQ? Its sorta lika saying that folks who have one cable package hurts those who have another smaller package.

heh...smaller package...

Its hurts because you're paying for stuff you get on the PC and will be getting on all competing consoles for free: online gameplay. :(

this is where i question 2 things:

1. you say "consoles", as if more than 1 other console has online play.
2. have you ever played a playstation 2 game online? i'd say 90% of them run like complete shit or are so devoid of users (thanks to no actual online network where you can contact friends who aren't on a specific game) that it's pointless to play

platinum - play with people who aren't idiots because kids cant afford to pay more than $50 a year

Shhhh this is not an anti-Live thread. Go elsewhere.

I made a post about Wipeout Pure in the PSP 1.5 thread about online. How do you even know if another person is on? If this is indicative of the PS2 experience online, shit man. I used to laugh when people said that Sony might come up with something that beats XBL. I laugh no longer, I weep for your soul now, this shit sucks.

Also the importance of every game working together through an interconnected service can't be overstated. Just this morning I fired up Burnout just to play with one friend.. and within a few minutes two more friends, who were playing other games, noticed we were playing and popped in their copies of Burnout to join us. And of course, this made the time we played a lot better. That doesn't happen elsewhere.

I guess it could happen, but I just don't see it. Remember there are still people who think MS is going to charge more than 50 dollars a year. If MS offers a Platinum account this means MS and 3rd party developers can't make us users take it up the ass as much with micro transactions. This is one aspect of Live I hope fails miserably.

Remember you will also need gold if you want to video chat.

Anyone know how Halo 2 maps sold on Xbox Live? That was basically one big test by MS to see how microtransactions would be accepted.

Everyone I know has them

As opposed to making the system work and doing everything possible to eliminate little shits from a pay-for-play service. Microsoft would do that in an instant, I fear. Either way, good times to come! :lol

But seriously, I don't think a Platnium solution may be necessary, but I'm speaking as someone interested in XBL next generation, not as a current user. I'd imagine the Live model would offer many opportunities for Microsoft to make money out of it without upping the cost of entry.

on the contrary, years of experience have led me to believe that kids and assholes are more likely to spend money to annoy you than anyone else...
