In the recent trailer for upcoming robotic metroidvania "MIO: Memories in Orbit," the game closes with hard branding for "Xbox PC," which is the first time it has appeared on a third-party game trailer

Most likely just a lazy way to write "PC, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One". They write out all the real labels at the end.

Btw, the game looks great!

Is it their way to specify the demo is only available on computers? Steam (PC) and Xbox PC (Windows/Microsoft Store for PC)?

From that article:

"This suggests to me that Microsoft is actively briefing partners to refer to "Xbox PC" in specificity to games that are hitting the Microsoft Store for Windows 11, albeit via the Xbox app, or well, "Xbox PC" as it will likely be known in the future." So Xbox (console) and Xbox PC (computer)?

How about dropping the Xbox brand altogether? It's super lame, like black trenchcoats and ray-bans of the early 2000's.
If you think "X" is cool you're either 12 years old or Elon Musk.

More than likely saying the demo is available on Xbox and the Xbox app on PC. Probably should have said Xbox and Windows

I don't think it's available on the console tho, Xbox PC just seems to be a simple rebrand of the "Windows store" moniker.

The brand is fucking poison when it comes to PC. I'm just glad that (so far) it doesn't mean they're actually trying to get more involved like in the GFWL days.

Xbox app most likely. If given the choice of Steam or the Xbox app, Steam every time. Games on the Xbox app take forever to get patches if at all and generally run worse. At least you can file dive now, but the app itself is still super slow and clumsy.

I feel like I'm in some sort of twilight zone since I've always called it XBOX PC, I mean it's xbox...on pc, the app is called xbox and it's on pc....the exe is called xboxpcapp.exe...
It's like people mandela effected themselves by calling it the gamepass app instead, even though such a thing never existed on pc; I think this is in part MS just making sure everyone is using the correct terminology. 🤔

Oh, drat. I don't have an Xbox PC, unfortunately. Just a regular ol' PC - and my next one's gonna have Linux, instead of Windows, to boot.
Oh, well.

This is a rather pathetic move, honestly. I know it's not exactly that, but it almost reads like Microsoft desperately trying to brand the PC-scape - a desperate cry of affirmation of one's own existence.

So seems like the gaming companies are segmenting to.

Sony - Console Gaming
Nintendo - Portable Gaming
Microsoft - PC Gaming
IOS/Android - Mobile Gaming
Microsoft goes there to die. Seriously. There's no room for Microsoft in the PC space. They've tried and failed numerous times before. They have nothing of value to add, and the word "Microsoft" itself is a poison pill.

And they did that to themselves.

Honestly, looking at where things are going, I think I have no choice but to agree with the doombros: Microsoft is out, and the Series line may very well be their last mainline entry into the console market. It's pretty wild.

And all that because some incredible idiot thought spending a ridiculous fortune on "acquiring" Activision was a good idea.

Not only that but gamepass and day and date pc releases did them in as well. Only reason to own a series console is if you hate gaming on a pc and gamepass which it looks like they are still banking on to sell consoles.

Just feels like Microsoft is continuing to try to leech onto others' work instead of producing its own content. Buying studios with games already in development and calling them their own (yes they bought them, but they didn't make it), trying to show the Xbox brand as everything everywhere. Does that not just dilute it as a major game producer and make it seem like a companion app or something?

I have no real issue with Xbox anymore as the Xbone stuff was a long time ago now, but it feels like a trademark has expired and now everyone has access to the Xbox brand and has lost so much standing.

That's just the impression I get. I don't use GamePass on PC (or anywhere) and disable the gamebar stuff in Windows so it doesn't matter to me generally, just a passing comment.
